Gates Mills Holiday Concert
Believe it or not, we are nearly ready for the Gates Mills Holiday Concert! This year’s concert will take place on Thursday, December 13th. Students should be in their classrooms by 6:40pm, with the program beginning promptly at 7pm. Each class will sing, and we will have audience participation! Traditionally, students dress up for this concert. Girls should wear skirts or dresses, and boys should wear dress pants and a collared shirt or a sweater. Holiday attire is encouraged, such as snowflake sweaters or Santa hats.
In each class, there will be certain students who have special instrument parts or other jobs to do. If your child will not be attending our concert, please let me know as soon as possible so I can make appropriate arrangements. Thank you for your cooperation in this matter.
If you have questions about the Holiday Concert, please contact Mrs. Hall at 995-7412 or e-mail her at RHall@mayfieldschools.org.
Inside the Idea Lab with Mrs. Stephens
This week during Idea Lab time we celebrated World Kindness Day (November 13) by reading Each Kindness by Ohio author and 2018-2019 National Ambassador for Young People’s Literature Jacqueline Woodson. Each Kindness has received the Coretta Scott King Honor and the Jane Addams Peace Award. After reading the book, grades 3, 4, and 5 discussed the need for kindness in our world then practiced giving kind compliments to our classmates. Grades K, 1, and 2 talked about what kindness is and drew a picture of one way they could do something kind for someone else.
Over the next few weeks we will participate in the Hour of Code and have our annual Scholastic Book Fair, and after winter break we will be doing more coding and practicing our keyboarding skills. Stay tuned for other exciting activities that are in the works as well!
Mr. D's SE Skills Guidance Updates
All grade levels took the time to say Thank You to our Veterans! During our lessons, I took some time to discuss with the kids what a Veteran is and why it is important to thank those men and women for their service to our country. The lesson also allowed for the students to learn about thankfulness and appreciation, along with the younger kids being able to acknowledge Veterans as heroes.
Following the lesson, students colored and decorated a Veterans Day coloring sheet. The students had the option of creating a coloring sheet for a family member who is a Veteran, creating one for our very own gym teacher Mr. Myers, or creating one for a Veteran to be sent to the Veterans Association.
The students did a great job working hard on their coloring sheet, understanding that their work would show how much they appreciate the Veteran they chose to do the activity for!
If you ever have questions about one of my lessons, please feel free to email me at cdimarino@mayfieldschools.org or call me at (440) 995-7427.
