Eighth Grade Newsletter
April 7, 2014
Dear Parents,
Due to the excessive number of snow days this winter, the last day of school will now be Friday, June 6.
English
We are beginning a "Race to Washington DC" where students complete a variety of activities that will enhance their skills in English and their knowledge about Washington DC. You can see the complete list of activities in iTunes U.
Race to Washington iTunes U Course
Most of the materials are available on their iPads, but some will have to be used in my room. Students are always welcome before school, during lunch, and after school if they need more time to complete an assignment.

Washington DC Trip
Students who are interested in participating in the wreath laying ceremony at the Tomb of the Unknowns at Arlington National Cemetery should write an essay explaining why they would like to honor those who served in the military. Essays are due Monday, April 14 and should be typed. A staff committee will choose four students based on their essays as well as citizenship throughout the year.
You are welcome to turn in Oleson's slips for your younger students or donate them to our scholarship fund. Checks for spending money will be distributed at the parent meeting May 1.
There is an iBook about the trip that students have in their iTunes U course. Please take some time to look through the book with your student.
Mark your calendars for an important parent meeting regarding the trip on Thursday, May 1. This is a change due to a conflict with the spring band concert.
