Switzerland Point Middle School
Raider Rap -November 16, 2022
From Ms. Carnall
During this time of year, we pause to reflect on all of the things we have to be thankful for. We are thankful for our students who come to school every day ready to learn. We have students who are excelling in academics, athletics, the arts, and other endeavors who are supported and loved unconditionally by their parents and guardians. Our students benefit from the way our community consistently pulls together for the good of our school. We are grateful for your support as parents and guardians, and thankful for your trust in us as we work with your students every day. We have faculty, staff and administrators who work tirelessly to become better educators to uplift our students, keep our buildings safe and running smoothly. We see dedicated individuals going above and beyond to make sure great things are happening in our building.
During the month of November, Raiders are reflecting on what and who we are grateful for. We would love to hear who our valued families and community members are thankful for as well! Please take a brief moment to express your gratitude to our amazing staff by filling out the Microsoft form below. Your words of gratitude make a great impact on our climate and culture. We will share your responses with the staff on Tuesday, November 22nd before Thanksgiving Break. We are thankful you are part of our Raider family!
I am wishing all of you and your families a healthy, relaxing and Happy Thanksgiving.

Honor Card Digital Program
The St. Johns County School District Honor Card program has gone digital! If your child is on the A/B honor roll, you have the opportunity to receive discounts at some very fun and exciting places in St. Johns County. Instead of paper honor cards, you will now show business participants your phone and receive these discounts. Below are the steps to using the new system.
- On your smart phone go to https://myhonorcard.com. The following screen will appear. Place your child’s student ID number and date of birth in the boxes.
A list of participating businesses and their offerings are also on a different tab on the website.
If you have any questions, please call 904-547-3945 between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. Monday – Friday.
NJHS and WEB sponsored Food Drive
NJHS and WEB are teaming up! We are collecting the following items for St. Johns CARES and the Homeless Coalition to help our community this Thanksgiving season. Please have your student bring their item to their 1st period teacher between 11/14-11/18. The homeroom with the highest number of donated items will win a donut party!
- Non-perishable food for humans, including snacks (granola bars)
- Ready-made meals (for example, soup that hot water is added to, canned ravioli, etc.)
3. Canned proteins (tuna, chicken, vienna sausages, chili) or any item with a pop top since many homeless don’t have can openers
4. Bottled water, paper towels, plastic utensils
5. Diapers for newborns to toddlers
6. New socks for men
7. Small size toiletries (travel size toothbrush and toothpaste)
Testing Update: FAST Progress Monitoring 2
Progress monitoring 2 (PM2) dates have been announced (see below). Students will be told of their testing room by their 1st period teacher. Testing begins promptly at 7:30. Please encourage your child to do their best, bring a pencil, and eat a healthy breakfast.
7th grade students in Advanced Math will take the 8th grade Math FAST assessment for both PM2 and PM3 since this aligns best with the standards taught in the 7th grade advanced course.
Students will be assessed on standards that will be covered over the entire curriculum and this progress monitoring tool will be used to guide teacher instruction so that students continue to make progress.
Test dates for PM2 are as follows:
6th grade FAST ELA Progress Monitor 2 (PM2): January 9th
7th grade FAST ELA Progress Monitor 2 (PM2): January 10th
8th grade FAST ELA Progress Monitor 2 (PM2): January 12th
6th grade FAST Math Progress Monitor 2 (PM2): January 13th
7th grade FAST Math Progress Monitor 2 (PM2): January 17th
8th grade FAST Math Progress Monitor 2 (PM2): January 19th
Each month teachers are able to nominate students who display the pillar of character for the month. Those students are invited to have donuts with us at the end of the month and receive their certificate.
In the month of November we celebrate the pillar of Citizenship.
We should look for students who:
- Does her/his share to make her/his school and community better
- Gets involved in community affairs
- Stays informed; votes
- Is a good neighbor
- Obeys laws and rules
- Respects authority
- Protects the environment

Book Fair Coming Soon!
Dear Parents and Families:
Get Ready! The Scholastic Book Fair is coming our way (YAY!). Choosing their own books empowers kids and inspires them to become Bolder, Prouder, and Stronger Readers. AND—as always—every book they buy earns rewards for our school.
Here’s what you need to know about the Fair, which will take place from December 5th – December 9th in the media center.
This year, say hello to eWallet—your child’s digital payment account. Before the Fair, set up eWallet for worry-free, cash-free purchases. Visit our bookfair website to set up an eWallet. We still accept cash, check, and card as well.
If you can’t make it to the Fair, then shop at our school’s Online Book Fair. All orders ship directly to your home, and shipping is free for book orders over $25. Your online orders will also benefit our school.
Visit our Book Fair homepage to learn more and get started with eWallet and online shopping:
The countdown to more Bookjoy is on! Catch you at the Fair!
Math Resources 6th Grade, 7th Grade, 8th Grade, Algebra Honors
Have you checked out all the amazing resources available through your online math book? It has some AWESOME resources for students and parents! Students can access the site through Clever from the Links for Students on the school website. Then click Math Nation.
Once in Math Nation, you can click the unit and lesson from the menu on the left. Each lesson has various parts including warm-ups, refreshers, guided practice, you try, etc. These align exactly with the student workbooks. When you click on one, it will have the option to watch a video. This is where the magic happens! Students can choose which Math Nation tutor they want to watch explain this section. It says which ones are more in depth and which teach a little faster. Students often end up having a “favorite” Math Nation tutor : ) At the end of each lesson you’ll see that the last section is always “Check Your Understanding.” This is a little quiz that allows students to work through some practice problems for that lesson.
Take advantage of these helpful videos when students need a little extra support at home!
Please note: Geometry Honors students do not have access to Math Nation, but can take advantage of their own resources on their textbook site as well : )
