In the wake of the school shooting in Michigan earlier this week, we wanted to remind parents that we take all threats very seriously at the WSD. Threats of any kind will be met with appropriate disciplinary action, and we will continue to work in coordination with local law enforcement agencies. Please talk to your students about safety in our schools and tell them to speak with a trusted adult if they ever have a concern. We will continue to prioritize the safety of our students, and we appreciate your support in this effort.

Our schools and District offices will be closed Friday, Feb. 18, 2022, for a Mental Health Day to allow our staff some well-deserved time off to recharge. Thank you for your patience and understanding as we work to support our staff during this challenging time!

Monday, Dec. 6, is the deadline to register and pay for K-6 supervision for the Late Start on Monday, Dec. 13. The supervision for students in grades K-6 is $10 per child for each late start day. This service is separate from Chautauqua and only for students NOT already enrolled in the Chautauqua Before School Program.

To arrange for adequate staffing, you must register and pay for K-6 supervision by the end of the day on Monday, Dec. 6. (Please note: you may register for multiple dates by filling out the form one time - you don't need to wait and register before each late start date.) Once you have registered, payments can be made by cash or check to your child’s school or via PayPal.

Late starts provide valuable collaboration time for our teachers across the District, and we understand these days can be a challenge for working parents especially. The supervision option was established to assist those parents who need it. On Nov. 24, a Cole County Circuit Judge found pursuant to Mo. Rev. Stat. § 536.050 that rules issued by the Department of Health and Senior Services (“DHSS”), codified at 19 CSR 20-20.010 et seq., which authorize the Director of DHSS or a local health agency director to exercise personal discretion to (1) implement discretionary “control measures” including the “creation and enforcement of orders” affecting individuals, schools, organizations, businesses and other entities, and (2) close schools and places of public assembly based solely on his/her opinion, are invalid.

As of now, our contact tracing process and mitigation efforts remain unchanged and continue to operate under the Board of Education Modified Quarantine motion from Sept. 28. The Cole County Circuit Court ruling regarding COVID will be addressed during the regularly scheduled Dec. 16 Board of Education Meeting.
