Mrs. Novack's News

December 5, 2014

The cold weather has arrived! Please keep in mind that we will be going outside for recess unless the wind chill is below 25. Make sure to send your child to school with an appropriate coat, gloves and hat for being outside 20-30 minutes everyday.

Field Trip

We had a great time at The Children's Museum yesterday! A huge thank you to Mrs. Norvell, Mrs. Schwarz, Mrs. Sondgeroth, Mrs. Garner and Mrs. Hollingsworth for being our chaperones!

Scholastic Book Orders

Our December Scholastic Book order is due today. You can still place an order online by using the link below. If you would like to order something as a gift for your child, please let me know and we can make arrangements to get the books to you without your child knowing.

TCE's Buddy Bench Project

Please check your child's folder for a flyer about TCE's new Buddy Bench Project. We will be collecting plastic caps and lids throughout the year to be recycled into Buddy Benches for the playground. Please feel free to send in any items you may have as often as needed.

Coming up next week...

Reading -we will be putting all our skills from this semester together during a short unit on fairy tales. We will be listening to several fairy tales by Hans Christian Anderson and identifying the characters, setting, problem and solution in the stories.

Writing - In conjunction with our reading unit on fairy tales we will be trying our hand at writing our own fairy tales. We will also be focusing on having a complete sentence that starts with a capital letter, ends with the correct punctuation, and makes sense.

Math - We will continue to work on our unit on graphing. We will be learning about picture graphs, bar graphs and using tally marks to collect our data. As always, we will continue to practice those math facts.

Social studies - we will continue our unit on economics. We will be learning about needs vs. wants, as well as goods and services.

We will continue discussing traditions that we see around us and that we have at home. We will discuss how to respect and learn from everyone's traditions.
