Pastry Chef
When I grow up, I want to be a Pastry Chef. This career is located in the Agriculture, Food, and Natural Resources career cluster. Some of the job duties in this job are making all kinds of desserts, breads and others baked goods, menu planning, sanitation + Food Safety, Administrative Duties, and food prep. My work environment would be mostly indoors. I would work 8-12 hours a day for 5 days a week. I would be working on a salary of $22.40 an hour. To be a pastry chef, you must have at least an Associates degree and you will have on the job training. To be a pastry chef, you must have a keen eye for measuring things, and you need to have a good attitude. You also should know various baking temperatures on food. Some advice I would give to people wanting this job, you need to know and be a good baker, and you need to have a good attitude. I would also tell them to practice before taking the job. Some of the positive aspects of being a pastry chef is that you get good pay, you learn new recipes, and you also get to create fun recipes. Some negative aspects of being a pastry chef is dealing with all of the negative people, the hours you have to work, and how your always on feet.
