Principal's Report - Phillip Reavis

Famous Children’s Book Illustrator Coming to Oakview!

Oakview is excited to welcome acclaimed artist, Dan Yaccarino, on April 24. Yaccarino will spend time visiting with 5th graders on that day. Oakview was among several schools vying for the free illustrator visit. The Greenville County Museum of Art will fully fund the $2,000 in costs associated with bringing Dan Yaccarino to our school.

Spring Garden Workdays!

Spring has sprung and it is time to get our gardens ready. We need you! Please consider volunteering at one of our upcoming garden workdays on Saturday, April 11 or April 25 from 9:00-11:00 a.m. Garden work days are an excellent opportunity for service learning students from middle or high school! We welcome their help!

PTA President's Report - Jean Scott

Welcome back, Oakview families! Now that spring break is over, I have something new for you to look forward to. Please mark your calendars for our Volunteer Appreciation Breakfast on Friday, April 24. Also that week, on April 22, we will have our monthly PTA board meeting. And there is still time to volunteer to serve your PTA next year. Please read on for details.

PTA Nominating Committee

The Nominating Committee is busy working on filling next year's PTA board. We have had tremendous success with volunteers stepping forward, but still have a few positions left to fill. Please do not worry if you have never volunteered before because everyone has to start somewhere and we welcome any parents or grandparents that are willing to help. If you would like to be a part of the PTA board in 2015-2016 or if you have more questions, please do not hesitate to contact any member of the Nominating Committee: Celeste Blinston, Allison Levato, Jen Pestrak, Jennifer Smith or Michelle Stoudemire

Oakview Mural

Mrs. DeMeritt and Mrs. Page are still in need of the following items for the mural: bottle caps, particularly black, silver, blue, orange, green, and white; green bottles (i.e. Sprite, Ginger Ale); wine corks; large buttons; and CDs. Collection of these items continues through the end of April. Thank you for your support!

Reflection State-Level Winners

Congratulations to Oakview’s State Level winners who will be honored in a special ceremony in Columbia on March 14 for the PTA Reflections Contest:

The World Would Be A Better Place If...

For Primary Category two, two Oakview students won Honorable Mention: Christian Foggie for his literature entry entitled ‘Cruz’ Community; and Sarah Tervo in the music category for a song about friendship that she wrote and sang. For the Special Artist Category, Brook FitzGerald won first prize in the music category with a piece entitled If Everyone Played the Harmonica.

Great job to all who participated. There will be a special awards ceremony at Oakview Elementary on April 16 for all the students who entered the PTA 2014-2015 Reflections Contest. We’ll see you there!

5th Grade Day

Plans are underway for this fun Oakview tradition! Each year our 5th graders celebrate the end of their elementary school career with a day full of fun. The homeroom classes will compete against each other in a talent show and outdoor games. They will come together to laugh, dance and remember all of the good times they have had at Oakview!

We would like to thank Lori Knoblauch for heading up sponsorships for 5th Grade Day. Without support from our business partners in the community, this day would not be possible. With our deepest gratitude, we would like to thank the following for their generous donations:

Harrison Orthodontics

Master Kims Tae Kwon Do
