Southfield Public Schools
Greetings from the Superintendent
Greetings Students and Parents!
As Superintendent of Southfield Public Schools, it is my extreme pleasure to welcome all of our students back to school for the 2021-2022 school year. Our teachers, principals and staff are excited about the return of students filling the classrooms for enthusiastic learning.
Welcome back to school!
Dr. Jennifer Green, Superintendent, Southfield Public Schools
Start and Dismissal Times
In-Person Learning for the 2021-2022 School Year
Southfield Public Schools will be welcoming all students to full in-person learning this school year. Thankfully, we experienced zero COVID cases during our Summer Program, and with the CDC guidance, we are proudly encouraging all students to return to school in person. If you are concerned about your student returning to school for in-person learning, you have the option to select virtual learning through Oakland Schools. Virtual Learning Academy Consortium or VLAC, is a full-year, virtual option. Please note, this option does not allow a temporary schedule and must be utilized for the entire school year. You can access the link for VLAC virtual learning here: https://www.virtuallearningacademyconsortium.org/
COVID Safety & Mitigation Measures
Mask Wearing
Southfield Public School District will be following the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) and Prevention Mitigation Guidelines. It is highly recommended that all students and staff wear masks while indoors regardless of vaccination status. The District will provide masks for any student requiring one. We will also encourage social distancing, when and where feasible. In addition, within the classrooms teachers and students will be situated with portable protective shields and/or barriers.Transportation
Masks are required on school buses. Bus Drivers and Aides will be expected to wear masks during your child’s rides to and from school (unless in the event of those wearing glasses and experience fogging) Students will be required to wear them as well. A limited number of masks will be available for students who may arrive at the Bus Stop without one.
School Cleaning and COVID Sanitizing
All classrooms will be stocked with air purifiers and Hand Sanitizing Stations. These sanitizing stations will also be placed through school corridors. Each school will be fully sanitized at the end of the school week on the weekends. School Custodians will be disinfecting frequently touched surfaces throughout the day with a hospital-grade and US EPA-approved disinfectant.
Community Pass
It is with great pleasure that Southfield Public Schools would like to announce that we are implementing CommunityPass as a “One-Stop-Shop” for your SPS student’s needs.
What is CommunityPass? https://communitypass.net/schools/
CommunityPass is a comprehensive, easy-to-use online school registration software and payment processing solution for public, private and charter schools, adult education and community schools, before and after care programs, enrichment, affiliated clubs, and parent-teacher organizations. This all-in-one platform makes managing school-based programs and fees easier than ever, and provides the tools you need to succeed.
In short, CommunityPass is where you will provide funds for your student’s lunch accounts. Additionally, you can pay for other programs and student fees online or from your mobile device.
You may have already received the welcome letter to create your CommunityPass online account. Please note that CommunityPass updates are based on your MiStar profile so please ensure that your MiStar is current.
