School Counselor's Corner
Parents,
This week our Project Care focus was on the Character Trait of Citizenship. We talked about how Citizenship involves not only just being a member of a community; but also means that you are doing something to help make your community a better place. Good citizens cooperate with others, are good neighbors and friends, obey laws and rules, respect authority, protect the environment, and volunteer to help causes in their community. We also mentioned some things that good citizens volunteer to do for their communities such as: clean up trash, help elderly with raking leaves or shoveling snow, help collect food and clothing for the needy, visit homeless shelters or nursing homes, or raise money for good causes.
Over the course of the next two months you and your student will have many opportunities to help do something for others. There will be opportunities at home, church, in your neighborhood, and at school. Please try and help model good Citizenship for your student by choosing a cause and having your student be an active part of that cause. Talk to them about it and how what they are doing is helping others. When we do this we are helping our kids learn empathy, modeling compassion, and helping raise a society of kids that will want to help out others.
Please try and follow-up on this message at home. When we practice good citizenship and do things for our community, it helps us become more caring and compassionate people.
What will you do as a family to help your community?
Until next week......
