Setting Personal Goals

By: Gloria and Kelly

Why is it important to set goals?

Have you ever seen Michael Jordan get to to top of NBA without setting goals to practice? Have you ever seen Neil Armstrong reach the moon on just his own standards? What about Martin Luther King? How did his dreams and goals affect the nation? Have you seen anybody make it to the top of the achievement ladder without setting a personal goal to make their dreams come true?

From poverty to power

J.K. Rowling went from being on the dole to starting a $15 billion industry. Rowling, the author of the Harry Potter books series, was estimated to be worth $843.92 million U.S. dollars as of 2008. She began writing the series while she was on welfare and by incorporating some of the darker elements of her own life - the loss of her mother and battle with depression - into the novels, Rowling's books became a success after an initial press of 1,000 sold out, giving way to Potter mania. This shows how she fought for her goals and never gave up.
