Tony Tian – 24/25 *One of only two in the state to get this score
Corey Tolbert – 23/25 *One of only three in the state to get this score
Joshua Byers and David Li – 22/25 *Two of only five in the state to get this score
Justin Byers – 20/25 *One of only six in the state to get this score
Lynne Clark – 19/25 *One of only eleven in the state to get this score
The following list of twelve students fills out our top nineteen. The top nineteen are going to take the AMC-10 on Tuesday, February 3rd.
Victoria Lee – 18/25
David Teng and Tom Teper – 17/25
Shreyas Pant and Hugh Mitchell – 16/25

To better put these scores into perspective, please browse through the reports that can be found at: AMC-8 Reports.

The median score among the 144,737 students who took the AMC-8 is 11/25. A score of 14/25 or higher places in the top 25%, 19/25 or higher places in the top 5%, and 23/25 or higher places in the top 1%.
Math Team ASFA Competition Results
Discovery’s pre-algebra team came in 1st place. (There were eleven teams in our division and twenty-one in all. We had the highest score of all twenty-one schools, regardless of division.)
Individual winners were:
Lynne Clark – 3rd place
Shreyas Pant – 5th place
David Teng – 8th place
Thomas Teper – 9th place
The other team members competing were Emgra Busambwa, Devin Christopherson, Nathan Dinh, Constance Hu, Sherry Lee, Juanita Monteiro-Pai, Joy Onawola, and Tinamarie Wilks. It is worth noting that out of 87 competitors, our pre-algebra team had 7 of the top 17 scores.
Discovery’s algebra 1 team also came in 1st place. (There were eleven teams in our division and twenty-two in all. We had the highest score of all twenty-two schools, regardless of division.)
Individual winners were:
Justin Byers – 1st place
David Li – 2nd place
Joy Duan – 7th place
Joshua Byers was our fourth highest scorer in 15th place. The other team members competing were Aneesh Akella, Kylee Henrie, Angela Kinsey, Victoria Lee, Ange Long, Grace Palenapa, Maisy Scully, Aditya Singhal, Chima Ugwuegbulam, and Douglas Zhang. Out of 92 competitors, our algebra 1 team had 5 of the top 17 scores.
We had two Discovery students competing in the geometry, large school division. Aditi Limaye and Tony Tian knew going in to this tournament that they were only competing for individual trophies. Team trophies are earned by four ciphering round scores and the four highest individual test scores. With only two competing, they would only have two individual tests and two ciphering rounds from which to earn team points.
Apparently, that didn’t matter. As a team of two, against five other schools (Hoover, Bob Jones, Cullman High, Grissom High, and Mountain Brook junior High), they earned the third place team trophy behind 1st place Hoover and 2nd place Bob Jones. All other schools in their division had full teams. Their team score also put them in 3rd out of ten schools, regardless of division.
Individual winners were:
Tony Tian – 1st place
Aditi Limaye – 2nd place
Drumline and Winter Guard have strong showing at MadTown Throwdown
Congratulations to our DMS Winter Guard they came in 5th Place and our DMS Drumline came in 2nd place this past weekend at that Madison City MadTown Throwdown at BJHS. (Note there was only 6pts separating 1st place to 5th Place in the Winter Guard Competition.)
Scholar's Bowl Competes in the District Tment
The Scholar’s bowl team competed in the district tournament on Saturday. The team of Aditi Limaye, Arnav Mathur, Shreyas Pant, Andrew Schultz, David Teng and Tony Tian won 3 of 5 matches losing in a heartbreaker in their last match. Unfortunately, the last match cost them the chance to move on to the state tournament. The team will continue to practice and will participate in additional invitational tournaments during February and March. We are still very proud of our team!

We are very excited to launch our new Athletic Website. Please note the web address has changed from bobjonessports.com to bobjonesathletics.com. The new website is even more user friendly. You can get real time updates and notifications by following us on twitter and Facebook. The website has icons for each.
In the coming weeks, we will have a full photo gallery with complete pictures of all of our facilities. I hope you will all take a look at it…I’m a little biased, but I think it looks great.
