IB Mission
The International Baccalaureate aims to develop inquiring, knowledgeable and caring young people who help to create a better and more peaceful world through intercultural understanding and respect. To this end, the organization works with schools, governments and international organizations to develop challenging programmes of international education and rigorous assessment. These programmes encourage students across the world to become active, compassionate and lifelong learners who understand that other people, with their differences, can also be right.

What is IB?
IB stands for International Baccalaureate. The IB is celebrating their 50th year in education and has over 4,000 schools worldwide. It began as a program to provide educational continuity for military and expat families that were moving around the world and wanted a rigorous academic program for their children that would remain constant regardless of the country.
The Middle Years Program (MYP) at the middle school level are both an overlay to the district and state aligned curriculum. Each one focuses on the development of the whole student with TEN Learner Profile Traits, and its goal is for students to gain a global perspective while fully participating in their local communities.
IB MYP Report Card
Hernandez students will be receiving their MYP report card May of 2019. It is a companion to the RRISD report card, and gives parents/guardians additional information as to how their students are performing in the eight IB school subjects. Similar to STAAR testing results, it will be a part of your students profile, but not the RRISD graded report card.
“MYP assessment standards are consistent around the world. In order to maintain the rigour for which the IB is renowned, the MYP assessment model is criterion-related. Teachers structure varied and valid assessment tasks so that students can demonstrate achievement according to objectives defined by the IB. Tasks are assessed against established criteria, not against the work of other students.
A good curriculum develops a range of student skills. The MYP encourages teachers to assess this acquired skill set, including how to succeed in written examinations. Typical MYP assessment tasks include open-ended, problem-solving activities and investigations, organized debates, tests and examinations hands-on experimentation, analysis and reflection. MYP assessment is carried out by teachers, according to the criteria by the IB” (The Middle Years Programme pamphlet).
