On May 4, 2021, voters will be asked to consider a ballot proposal that would renew Northville Public Schools’ current Operating Millage rate of 19.2383 mills for five years, 2022 to 2026, and would permit the school district to continue to levy the maximum 18 operating mills on only non-homestead property each year.

This millage renewal will impose no new taxes.

This is a renewal millage on non-homestead property only. No added taxes for businesses. No tax impact to homeowners of primary residences.

4-8-21 NPS COVID-19 Update

As you may be aware, there has been a significant increase in the number of COVID cases in our community, and across Michigan over the course of the past several weeks. Citing the increasing case rates and variant spread in Michigan, the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services (MDHHS) has reinstated a standard 14-day quarantine for close contacts of COVID-19 cases effective immediately.

**REMINDER** INTERNATIONAL TRAVEL REQUIREMENTS

The Wayne County Health Department, as indicated on the COVID-19 Daily STUDENT Symptom Screening Tool (2.16.2021), requires that students stay home to quarantine for 7 days from the date they return to the U.S. No earlier than the 7th day of return, a student must have a COVID-10 PCR test and have a negative result before returning to school.

PLEASE CONTINUE COVID REPORTING TO YOUR CHILD’S SCHOOL

It is important that families continue to report to your child's school attendance office and/or principal's office if anyone in your household is a presumed or positive COVID case, if your child has been in close contact with a presumed or positive COVID case, or if your child is being tested for or is COVID positive. Our COVID Response Team, in coordination with our school nurse and the Wayne County Health Department, are ready to support you through the reporting and necessary quarantine requirement process.

CLOSE CONTACT QUARANTINE UPDATE

As you may be aware, the Wayne County Health Department has adjusted the quarantine requirements for students identified as being a close contact to a positive COVID-19 case to 10 days (from the previous requirements of 14). Parents should continue to monitor their child for symptoms and not send them to school where symptoms are present. Additionally, if your child has had COVID-19 in the past 5 months (evidenced by a positive PCR), quarantine is not required. We began following these new requirements immediately and notified all families where an identified close contact quarantine could be shortened under these new rules.

The NPS Covid Response Team along with the Health Department will continue to monitor any outbreaks and all other cases. The NPS COVID-19 Dashboard lists the up-to-date COVID-19 data for Northville Public Schools, and includes a link to the more detailed, school-specific NPS COVID-19 Case Transparency Report.

Virtual Steam Fair Website Link

This past Wednesday, our 4th and 5th Graders had the opportunity to participate in Northville's "Virtual" STEAM Fair. The day began with live sessions presented by some wonderful corporate partners. CooperStandard took the students on a virtual factory tour. DTE – MIGreenPower taught them about wind and solar energy, while ITC explained how they get that energy to our homes.

Afterwards, the students were able to explore their peers' projects online through a website specifically designed for the event. We now invite you to do the same. Please click the link below to explore the wonderful projects created by Northville's K-12 students. Also, there are links to recordings of the live presentations our students saw from our corporate partners.

Special thanks also goes to the Presenting Sponsor, Community Financial Credit Union and all of the senior sponsors who made the STEAM Fair possible.

Dress Code Update in the Student Handbook

The Dress Code was recently updated in the Student Handbook. The current Dress Code as listed in the Student Handbook is as follows:

It is recognized that appropriate student dress and grooming are the responsibility of the parent and the student.Students are expected to be appropriately dressed and practice good hygiene at all times. Any form of dress or appearance which is offensive, disruptive in appearance, and/or detrimental to the purpose and climate of the school will not be permitted.

Clothing and accessories, including but not limited to backpacks, jewelry and electronic device covers or decals may not display statements that are age-inappropriate, racial or ethnic slurs, historical symbols of oppression (i.e. confederate flag), vulgar, obscene, or suggestive images, nor may they promote items or products that students may not legally purchase or possess (i.e. alcohol, tobacco, vapes or illegal drugs.)

We ask for parents’ continued support in helping children choose clothing that will not detract from the learning environment or devalue the principle of respect. The principal will determine when attire or accessories are inappropriate for school. Students who fail to adhere to dress code policy will be asked to change their attire or remove an accessory, remain in the office, or be sent home until acceptable attire is delivered to them or parent contact is made. Multiple infractions and/or failure to comply may lead to discipline.

Likewise, any materials brought into school (pictures, toys, etc.) which are disruptive or detrimental to the purpose or conduct of the school will be confiscated, and may be picked up from the school office by a parent or guardian. This includes the popular items of the moment which are often disruptive to the school environment.
