From the Principal
Welcome to September Mustangs! For many September marks the beginning of the academic season. For me it marks the beginning of my favorite sporting season – Football.
It’s also the midway point of first quarter. We are halfway there, encourage your students to keep giving their all as progress grades will post by the end of this week. Like football we are in the first quarter, it’s just the beginning of a great year ahead. There will be lots to accomplish and lots to celebrate, all of which will require hard work by all of us. I am ready for the journey this year!
Mustang Pride: Welcome To Our New Mustang
Hi, my name is Luz Harvey, LCSW. I am the Licensed Clinical Social Worker at Mary Meredith. I have worked with TUSD for the past 34 years as a social worker/counselor. I meet with students at school to support their learning and to help students have a positive school experience. Some of the things we work on together include:
Learning: Explore ideas about how to focus in-class and how to ask for help.
Social Skills: discuss strategies to help students build and maintain relationships with friends and adults at school.
Problem Solving: Help students find solutions to challenges that may occur with friends, teachers, or family members.
Skill building: develop skills to help manage Stress, Anxiety, Depression or Anger.
Positive Self-Talk: develop skills to help students create a positive attitude and ways to cope in their daily living.
Safety & Security: develop strategies and explore resources to help students, family or friends stay safe.
If you would like to speak with me, you may call the school at 520-232-8200 or email Luz Harvey.
MUSTANG'S COUNSELING CORNER
Talk It Out is an initiative out of the College of Education Counseling Program that was created in partnership with the Tucson Unified School District Family Resource Centers. This partnership began from the clearly identified need to provide mental health services to students and families in the community who might otherwise encounter significant barriers to access.
The program provides free mental health counseling services to TUSD students, families, teachers, and staff using a practicum training model. Under supervision, master’s level counselors-in-training provide individual, family and group counseling free of charge (no insurance required) to enrolled TUSD students and families in addition to currently employed teachers and staff members. To our knowledge, no other program or organization provides a similar service in the greater Tucson area. Please visit the TUSD website and click on the Talk it Out referral link, talk to a TUSD school counselor, or visit one of the Family Resource Centers to begin the referral process. Talk it Out clients may be struggling socially, emotionally, or academically and do not need to have a specific mental health disorder to qualify.
