Principal's Message
Dear Forest Hills Friends and Families,
Can you believe we are at the six week mark in our school year? Time is sure flying! I want to thank those of you who were able to make it to our Virtual Back to School Night on Tuesday. If you were not able to make it, please contact your child’s teacher and they will send you a link to the recording of their Zoom session.
Here’s another opportunity to view a short video from me along with messages from our PTO, the LOSD Foundation, our Bond Team and Student Services.
Thanks again and have a wonderful weekend.
Sincerely,
Jim Mangan, Principal
PE Request
We are off to a great start in PE this year! I LOVE being back in person with all the students this year.
We have had several trips and falls from students in rain boots, sandals, etc. Please have your student bring a CLEAN PAIR of PE shoes. It is much safer and will also help keep the gym floor clean!
Thank you!
CONFERENCES ARE COMING
We look forward to seeing you either way!
PTO News
Hello Forest Hills Falcons!
The PTO registration & volunteer committees are ready for sign up! We are excited to bring back some old favorites this year & we are rolling out some new committees as well! As always, the PTO relies on volunteers 100% - So if we don’t have committee chairs to lead events, then those events won’t happen. The PTO board members are more than happy to help with guidance and set you for up for success if you’re interested in leading a committee - feel free to reach out anytime if you have any questions (fhptoprez@gmail.com). Helping with the PTO is a great way to meet other parents and get involved in our community - everyone is welcome!
Below are just a few highlights from the various volunteer opportunities that the PTO needs your help planning. Please see the link for more detailed info & to indicate your interest. Committees that show no or little interest will be paused this year, so if you see something on the list that you’d really like to have happen, please sign up by Oct 13.
Committee List - sign up by Oct 13 to indicate interest in various PTO events
Link to E-Registration - register by Oct 13 to buy a yearbook & chip in for classroom parties
Classroom Parties - They’re back! Currently they will be “parties in a box’ where all you need to do is coordinate with other grade level parents to buy & drop off supplies for teachers.
Fundraising & Sponsors - A new committee giving businesses the opportunity to sponsor various Forest Hills PTO events and get your business name shared with the Forest Hills community.
Falcon Outreach - Community service & promoting volunteerism in our students!
Field Day - A highlight of the school year & this time around we get to help Ms. McDonald prep for the great event!
Auction - We’d love to bring it back this spring!!!! Who wants to help plan a party?
Art Showcase - New this year!
Winter Family Night & Dance Parties - Hoping we can pull these off outdoors this winter & spring.
All these opportunities and many more are detailed on the PTO Committee List - Check it out!
Thanks so much!

Counselor Corner
Dearest Forest Hills Families,
This month, we are exploring the social-emotional skill of Empathy. Empathy is an important trait for healthy relationships and being in community with others. There is always a need for Empathy in our world and it can start at home and in our schools.
The definition of Empathy that we will be using is: the ability to understand and connect to the feelings of another. We are focusing on a few key pieces of Empathy such as knowing how we feel and having the language to describe those feelings, understanding how others are feeling and listening well to others so we can understand different perspectives and connect in more meaningful ways. We will explore ways that empathy can help us care for and stand up with, and for, others in our communities. We will celebrate what makes us different and the things that we share.
For your reference, here are links for extension activities if you would like to explore Empathy further as a family:
