Wow, this year has gone by so quickly! We are now gearing up for Field Day. JFK’s annual Field Day will take place on Wednesday, June 6th (rain date June 7th). More information will be sent home with the students as the big day approaches.
Congratulations to Ryan Flad and Erin McCarthy for their outstanding performance in JFK’s Physical Education Program. They attended Bay Shore to accept their Leadership Award from Suffolk Zone.
Mr. Gerard and Mrs. Nagengast would like to thank all of the students who helped raise money for the American Heart Association. As a group you raised $5,287.41. This is the second highest total our school has ever raised. Special recognition goes out to Lilyanna Francis and Kate Elliott for being the top fundraisers. You all should be proud of your efforts in helping a good cause.
Classroom News;
Mrs. Ferraro's class studied the food chain and completed the unit by dissecting an owl pellet to see what animals the barn owl had consumed. Students then identified the species and sorted the bones of the prey.

NEWS FROM THE NURSE
To Our JFK Families,
The end of the school year is nearly here. Parents should pick up medications and/or supplies from the Health Office during the last week of school. If not picked up, these items will be discarded as per NY State Education Law. Paperwork for September may be picked up at that time. New MD prescriptions, orders and care plans must be renewed every year. Physical Examinations are required for students in grade 3 & 5 on a New York State School examination form. Forms may be accessed on the East Islip School district website. Over the summer, paperwork may be dropped off or mailed after August 18, 2018 to:
JFK Elementary School
94 Woodland Dr.
East Islip, NY 11730 Attn: Nurse
Please call me if you have any questions. If any new health issues arise over the summer and you wish to speak to me, please call the Main Office (631)581-1608. The office ladies will contact me and we will set up a meeting.

SAFETY AT J.F.K.
- Please do not drop off your child before 8:57 A.M. as there is no supervision. The school day begins at 9:12 A.M. Students will be dismissed at 3:12 P.M.
- Information about the Before and After School Programs is available by calling Stephanie Parker at (631) 224-2041.
- If you are picking your child up early, please be prepared to show photo ID. This continues to be the District’s policy. All doors to the building are kept locked. The buzzer to the right of the front doors will signal your arrival and you will be let in.
- If you are picking up your child, please remember that bus children need to be dismissed in an orderly and safe fashion. It makes it difficult when walkers and their parents congregate to talk and play in the bus loop after dismissal.
- Please take caution when walking or driving during arrival and dismissal. Our Aides, TAs and Crossing Guards are there for the safety of everyone. Please use the crosswalks. Do not walk across the bus loop.
- In an effort to teach responsibility, children are discouraged from returning to school to pick up forgotten items.
- The side parking lot is for staff only.
- As a reminder: Bikes, scooters, and small motorized cars should not be driven in the bus loop.
- Please do not block our neighbors’ driveways.
- We will continue to practice all our emergency drills. The children are always so cooperative.
- In case of an emergency, please let us know if you have a new cell or home phone number. Since e-mails are truly the fastest way for us to contact you, please make sure we have your newest address.
