Inspire with Instagram
Instagram is an online mobile photo-sharing, video-sharing and social networking service that enables its users to take pictures and videos, and share them on a variety of social networking platforms, such as Facebook, Twitter, Tumblr and Flickr.
How to Create a Teacher Instagram Account
- Download the Instagram app for your mobile device.
- Once the app is installed, tap to open it.
- Tap Register with Email to sign up with your email address.
- If you register with email, create a username and password (make sure that your username is teacher-related. Example: MrsMadisonsClass), fill out your profile info and then tap Done.
How to Create an Instagram Account
Concerns about Privacy
Make sure your classroom account is private. You can choose to have a single account for your class, which would be the safest way of approaching privacy concerns. The teacher should be the only one who can vet followers-- and they should only be associated with the class (parents, students, other classes in your school. Using a group hashtag for a particular project or theme is a good way to keep track of what they're doing, example: #edudemiccclassproject14 (Lepi).
Using Instagram in Your Classroom
- Showcase student work
- Student of the Week
- Scavenger Hunt
- Step-by-Step instructions
- Writing Ideas
Don't forget to use #Hashtags
A hashtag is a “symbol” (or code) that allows web search engines to find and categorize messages, keywords and in the case of Instagram, pictures.
You can use hashtags in every single one of your posts. Don't forget that you can make up your own #hashtags! Use group #hashtags to help students connect with class themes and goals.
Here are some frequently used edu hashtags.

#class
