Introducing Beautycounter

Most of us try our best to live a healthy life. We try to eat organic whole foods, we exercise and get the right amount of sleep most of the time but, what about the toxic chemicals that we are exposed to in our daily self-care products? Our skin is our largest organ and has a high but, variable rate of absorption. Studies indicate that women use 8-12 different skincare products daily. A small amount of a toxic chemical from multiple products can quickly add up to a high level of exposure over a lifetime. Some serious health consequences have been link to the ongoing exposure of toxic chemicals including asthma, dermatitis, inflammatory arthritis, learning disabilities, cancer and infertility. This fact resonates with me on both a personal and professional level working as a Integrative Medicine practitioner.

Unfortunately, the FDA is currently falling short to protect us from some harmful chemicals in our skincare products. The last time a federal law was passed to regulate the ingredients used in personal care products was in 1938! The European Union has spent the past two decades banning or restricting the use of 1,300 ingredients. The US has only banned 11 to date!

So the solution is in education ( and in supporting companies that are trying to make a change so that high quality, safe products become the standard. Beautycounter is one of the companies taking a stand by having the most comprehensive ingredient selection process in the industry! They are also a B Corporation meaning that people, planet and profit must all be equally weighed in the process of production. This is why I decided to support their efforts, become a part of the movement and spread the word of their safe skincare products.
