Inspire, Create and Grow a Community of Lifelong Learners
NEWS FROM MRS. HAZARD, PRINCIPAL
Hello SRES Families!
Did you notice our new scarecrows? Students in our after-school program worked in teams to create each one - a collaborative fun learning experience for all! Thank you ASP students and staff!
SRES students are learning lots of ways to be mindful, self-regulate, and get back on track! I am so proud of their willingness to learn and participate. Ask your student about what they've learned (eg. five-finger breathing; smell the rose/blow out the candle; bee breathing; taking a moment to notice what you see, hear, smell, taste; etc.)
We are going on an all-school field trip on Wednesday, October 5th! Our plan is to travel as a school to Green Mountain Orchards for a fun afternoon outing. Thereafter, students will be learning various skills all with an apple theme! Please look for the permission slip in your child's backpack today and return it on Monday.
As you know, we have been talking about safety in school. HERE is a parent resource that explains the five commands we use, teach, model and practice. To date, we have practiced Evacuate and Lock Down. I encourage you to reach out with any questions you may have.
Family Engagement Survey: Thank you to the 11 families who participated; your feedback is valued! We learned that there is interest in Coffee and Conversation with the Principal at drop off, and in learning about how best to work with teachers to improve your child's academic growth and monitor their progress. We also learned that the evening was the best time for most family engagement events. We will be using your feedback to plan opportunties in the coming months.
- Coffee and Conversation with the Principal will begin on October 7th and continue thereafter on the first Friday of each month from 8-8:45am. Come and enjoy a cup of coffee and share your ideas, ask questions and learn more about SRES! I look forward to seeing you!!
Friendly reminders:
- Picture Day: Thursday, October 6th AM
- Changes to the end of your student's day: Please notify the school prior to 2pm as the end of the school day is a very busy time. Thank you for understanding!
- A sweatshirt/jacket is a great addition to wear/bring to school given the changing weather!
- Playground use between 8am-5pm (see below)
- Trading cards (eg. Pokeman), fidgets, toys: Please keep these at home; thank you!
Looking ahead:
- October 10th: No School/Indigenous Peoples Day
- October 11th: No School/InService (teachers have a menu of learning opportunities!)
- Week of October 17th: NH Dance Institute Residency!! FUN! FUN!
Have a great weekend together!
Your partner in education,
Laura Hazard

After School program with the Grafton Nature Museum
After School Program Update
We have been very busy in ASP. Last Thursday we learned about Vermont beavers with Sam from Grafton Nature Museum. Ask your student about our special guest!
Monday: Stem night: We started engineering scarecrows. All the students had so much fun designing their group's scarecrow .
Tuesday: Craft night: We finished our scarecrows. Then each student made a paper scarecrow to bring home!
Wednesday: We displayed our scarecrows in front of the school (see pictures). We invite you to drive by to view them.
Thursday: We built fairy houses with Jay from the Grafton Nature Museum. Always so much fun!
Friday: Game night: We will play Bingo! One of the ASP students favorite activities. Each student will win a prize!
Friendly reminders: Wednesday is organized outdoor game night, please send your student with comfortable footwear suitable for running.
Also with fall in full swing it is getting cooler in the late afternoon, please send your student with a light jacket, sweatshirt or sweater. We are outside for recess every day, weather permitting, and on Wednesday and Thursday's for activities.
We still have some ASP spots open!
If you would like to sign your student up for ASP please reach out to the school at 802-869-2637 or Tina White at tina.white@wnesu.com.
Thank you Amanda for all the wonderful photos!!
After School Program Fall Scarecrows
SRES PLAYGROUND USAGE
A friendly reminder...
All WNESU elementary schools added the following to their 2022-23 handbooks to bring clarity to the use of playgrounds both during and after school; especially given the addition of after school programming.
While we know families often like to stay after to play, we ask that you return after 5:00 pm to do so while the after school program is in session. Thank you for your cooperation.
Playground / Recess:
Our school playground is reserved for school use only from 8:00 AM until 5:00 PM each day school and/or our after school program is in session. Our students will be using the playground throughout this time for recess, after school activities, and other school events. The general public is asked not to use our playground during this time.
