Charlestown School Updates
For members of our learning community - May 12th, 2017
Teacher Appreciation Week
Thank you for helping our staff members to feel so appreciated!
Fidget Spinners at School
If you believe that your child needs a Fidget Spinner or a similar toy to help them to focus at school, please contact your child's teacher. A specific plan should be created for when and how this tool will be tried at school to potentially help your child to focus. We can track the effectiveness of the tool and keep you updated.
If you don't believe that your child needs this tool at school, please keep Fidget Spinners at home as they can be a fun toy of your child to use after school.
4th Grade Parent Volunteers Needed
We need a parent to coordinate designing and printing Tee Shirts.
We also need parent volunteers for the 4th grade Picnic on June 15th.
Please email Ms. Miceli or Mrs. Beaudry if you can assist!

PARCC and NECAP Testing Updates:
A full breakfast will be offered to all students who are participating in a morning testing session. Following a grade level breakfast social, students will get some exercise before testing begins.
A mint will be offered to each student to help them to stay focussed on the assessment. There is research that shows the benefits of peppermint oil.
PTO Run at Ninigret on Sat. May 27th at 9:00
Information will be sent home with students.
Adult Volunteers are needed to assist with registration and race safety.
Please email Dr. Moffitt if you can help.
Tick Information and Removal Tips
Mrs. Coulson wants all parents and staff members to know that year may be a VERY bad year for ticks.
Easy 3 step removal without tweezers or pulling out by hand..
- Soak a cotton ball (Q-tip, tissue piece, paper towel etc) in liquid soap.
- Place the cotton ball on the tick.
- Rotate counter-clockwise and the tick comes off whole!!!
This is much better than the usual tweezers way because there is no chance of leaving some of the tick behind. This method will work for pets as well.
For more tips, check out this article:

Mrs. Coulson has also learned of a new tool to help with tick removal called the Tick Twister. I believe it's sold on Amazon if you're interested.
