Chai Mitzvah Mussar Mix Tape October Recap
"In Judaism, we put a premium on discovering wisdom in the experience of words. We are, after all, the People of the Book! Words are powerful. Like little magic spells, they have the ability to change your very societal status (i.e.“I now pronounce you man and wife.”). Like magic, they can do things at a distance (i.e.“Open that window please.”), and thanks to telecommunications, they are effective no matter how great the distance (i.e. “Houston, we have a problem.”). Maybe you can think of some other magical properties possessed by the word. Use your word-power carefully, be aware before you speak to others, and also remember that even – or rather, most critically – the words that you say to yourself have an impact. Saying positive words to yourself will help you achieve your dreams."
Additional Information
• Hip Hop and Judaism: Comparing Oral Traditions https://elitalks.org/matt
What do hip-hop and Talmud have in common? Matt Bar uses hip-hop as a lens to understand Jewish oral tradition, demonstrating that each function has a type of education and tradition, calling on voices of the past to discuss issues in the present. Bar believes that the Jewish oral tradition is alive and well, and that rap and hip-hop are important for engaging young people in ancientTalmudic debates.
