RNNE Team and Family Launcher

Goal-oriented and intentional. Intervention.Authentic Team.

Sense of Urgency.

Good evening team -

I hope that you all had a beautiful weekend!

As you all know, we have lost a lot of instructional time with our babies due to snow days. We only have about 13 solid weeks of instruction left with them in this school year. We have to operate with a strong sense of urgency in order to actualize on the vision that entered the year with for our Rocketeers.

We are, no doubt, the team that will do it. You have all shown that day in and day out throughout the school year thus far. Let's bring it home for our Rocketeers and ensure that this second half of the school year is stronger than our first half. As Dan Quinn, Atlanta Falcons Football Coach quoted, "You don't win games in the first quarter or the first half..." Now, is the time when we need to bring it home for our Rocketeers. We must solidify the amazing growth that our Rocketeers achieved from the first semester - as a result of each of you- and build off of it so that they are entering the next school year ready to soar.

This is the time and you are the team to make it happen. Let's focus our instruction with data, consistently improve our actions and operate with urgency for our students. Your are the team and you have the heart to do it.

Lots of love always,
Christa

Academic Focus Areas

Follow up from your Content Team PD last Thursday:

Math:

  • Creating and executing on daily exit tickets
  • Using daily exit tickets to analyze mastery strengths and areas of focus for the following day/with that objective

K-2 Humanities:

  • Creating rigorous phonics tasks for students
  • Using data to inform phonics instruction

3-4 Humanities:

  • Using the TN Ready Framework to guide instruction for your TN Ready Block each day
  • New Assessment Day: Thursday
  • Analyze TN Ready Weekly Assessment during Thursday PD
  • Friday CPT: Norm on exemplars, key points and TN Ready objective focus for the following week; create next steps from prior week's assessment data

In lesson plan review, the Instructional Leadership Team has noticed progress in:

  • Teachers naming the various types of talk they plan to have students engage in throughout the lesson
  • Naming the sticky key points that align with each objective

Great work, team!! This is a result of you honing in on what students need to know, how they need to perform when doing it independently as well as ways that they should be engaged and carrying the cognitive load in your classroom! You're creating rigorous instruction for your Rocketeers!

Our push for this week in lesson plans is:

  • For every question that you are having students engage with and/or you will use in your "I do", write an exemplar response for it.
  • In writing your exemplar response, tag (name/copy and paste) the specific key point(s) that align with your exemplar so that you are able to quickly help a student if they get stuck in their understanding of the objective.

Note: These areas of progress and push should also be reflected in your guided reading/corrective instruction plans as well.

Lesson Plans -

Teacher-Facing Plans: always have the teacher-facing version of plans with you during your lesson execution so that you are referring back to what you've planned in the lesson cycle as well as in teacher exemplar answers.

Teacher Exemplars: have a teacher exemplar written out for each question that you are posing to students in your lesson plan.

Types of Talk: Code the types of talk that you are including in your lesson plans.

Culture Focus Area: Sweat the Details

Progress:

  • Teachers are asking for and setting the expectation of 100% in their classrooms. This sends the message that you believe in all of your Rocketeers.
  • Teachers are sweating the details with dress code and posture - shirts are tucked in, STAR position is tight, carpet position looks strong

Push:

We have lost a lot of instructional time with our Rocketeers. We only have 13 solid weeks of instruction left with them before school year comes to a close. In order for us to maximize on this precious time with them, we have to zoom in on more with urgency:

  • Be cognizant of the amount of time a Rocketeer spends out of class going to the bathroom. There are still a lot of Rocketeers out of class throughout the school day, on both floors, during core instructional time. Rocketeers should only be allowed to go the restroom during Independent practice if it is an emergency only. if you pass a Rocketeer in the hallway not moving urgently, please encourage them to finish up quickly so that they are not missing class. "Quick feet, Rocketeer." "Move urgently so that you are not missing class time."
  • Use economy of language when executing hallway transitions. This helps to ensure that your line is move urgently, quickly and silently. Lots of words from you create more noise from students. Use nonverbals and as few words as possible to transition your Rocketeers so that class time is maximized. Shout out to the teachers who are using Core Value Rocket Scouts to positively narrate Rocketeers who are following expectations.

Dismissal

Please be sure to stand outside of your door during afternoon dismissal to help monitor the behavior culture of students in the hallway.
