The Copeland PTO Newsletter - November 6, 2020

President’s Corner By Amanda Ball

I hope everyone had a happy Halloween and is enjoying the cooler weather!

I want to give a big Thank You to everyone that participated in our Raise Craze Fundraiser! Our Copeland Colts raised $12,057 and completed 363 acts of kindness. This was all made possible by our wonderful faculty and stellar students and their fabulous families. You all really know what it means to be a leader and to touch the lives of others. Way to go! We appreciate your support of Copeland and Copeland PTO. We could not do all of the wonderful things the PTO does without your help and generosity.

We have a Homeroom Coordinator (HRC) for every class except Ms. Hickman's. Thank you to everyone who volunteered to be an HRC this year. Parents should have or will soon receive an email from your HRC introducing themselves.

Who is ready for Texas Roadhouse Holiday Rolls??? We will start selling the famous Texas Roadhouse rolls, peanuts, cinnamon butter and Texas Roadhouse gift cards on November 16th and they will be ready for pick up in time for the December Holiday break. Everything will be done online this year, so no need to fill out order forms or print and hand out vouchers. You will receive all the details and link next week, so be on the lookout.

If anyone has any comments, suggestions or questions about Copeland PTO or volunteering at the school, please feel free to contact me at .

We are still in need of a Homeroom Coordinator for Ms. Hickman's class!

Our Homeroom Coordinators support our teachers and the class! Since this year looks very different in terms of volunteering, the role would involve creating signups where needed and communicating to the class parents on any upcoming events such as teacher birthday, holiday party, teacher appreciation, and any other events that we are permitted to have this year as they arise. The HRC can be a parent of a CFISD Connect or Face to Face student. This would not require that you are available to be on campus.

If you are interested in supporting Ms. Hickman by serving as her Homeroom Coordinator, please send an email with your name and phone number to Deepa Ozarkar at

Positions Needing to be Filled:

Fundraising Chair - Chairman is on the Executive Board and investigates options for major and minor fundraisers, coordinates & oversees all fundraising activities.

5th Grade Memory Book – (a 5th grade parent is requested) Chairman organizes this special "through the years" book for our 5th graders. They talk about their favorite memories at Copeland, favorite teachers, and we get to see their Elementary career in pictures from Kinder through 5th grade. We need someone to help organize this.

Gardening Chair - Chairman works with the master gardener on garden days with our 3rd grade classes to grow and take care of the garden at the front of the school.

Art needs 5 dish drying racks. If you can donate please drop it off at the front office. Every donation is appreciated.

Congrats Alejandra Elizarraras, our Volunteer of the Month

Thank you, Alejandra, for all the hours you put in at Copeland especially on our Hospitality Committee and in the Art room. You are AMAZING! It's people like you that make Copeland the best school our kids can be at. Enjoy your RESERVED parking spot up front! This is our way of thanking you for everything you do at Copeland Elementary.

Who will it be next month??? Log your hours now. If you need to know how, see the bottom of this newsletter for step by step directions on how to use Raptor, our volunteer hour recording system for Cy-Fair ISD.

Spirit Gear By Amanda Ball

Thank you for being patient if you had to wait for your spirit gear to be ordered. Our order was received and all individual orders were delivered last week. There are limited sizes if you are still interested in purchasing spirit wear. There are also water bottles, tumblers & caps available. Please visit our website, (click Fundraising from menu, then Spirit Wear) to see the selection and place your order. If you have any questions please email Amanda at

The Garden

The 3rd graders are excited to see the vegetables they have planted growing so big. The students have learned how to thin out their seed plants and planted onions. This week they learned about compost and planted lettuce seeds. Remember on garden days to have your 3rd grader wear the appropriate clothes. Upcoming garden days are 11/19 & 12/3.

The garden is in need of pine needles. If you are cleaning your yard and have pine needles to spare, please bag them and put them next to the picnic tables in front of Copeland. The 3rd graders will do the work of spreading them around their crops.

We are still in need of a garden chairman, if you are interested or have any questions please contact Amanda at Also, with Thanksgiving and the Holiday break coming soon the garden will need a few parents to help water. If you are in town and can help, please email Amanda.

Logging in as a Volunteer

Working for our kids as a volunteer is both rewarding and important. Please log your volunteer hours in our Raptor Portal.

CFISD has provided an online program to make it easier on volunteers to log and track their

volunteer hours. This program is called Raptor, which is part of the V-Soft security software

that helps keep our schools safe.

Copeland does not have logbooks in the front office to record your hours. So, in order to

log your hours, you will need to establish a raptor account. This is quite easy and will allow

you to log your hours at home.

The steps to register online are as follows:

1. Go to or click on the "New to Raptor" button below.

2. Complete this form in its entirety and submit (you must have an email address to do this)

3. You will receive an email from with your account information and password.

4. Once you receive the email use the button below to log in to your account.

5. Add this website to your favorites (this is where you will log hours)

6. Log in with email and password

7. Select campus

8. Select the tabs you will need

This program will be used to determine volunteer of the month and reporting our total volunteer hours to the district, enabling them to apply for various grants and programs.
