Principal's Korero
The end of term is approaching fast with only 2 weeks left. Students are working hard in classes with some great science experiments happening along with great light boxes being made in hard materials. Our performance groups are getting ready for their first public performance for the year which will be on our trophy night during the last week of the term.
With daily attendance numbers fluctuating, I would like to thank parents/caregivers who continue to make contact with the school to inform us of the reasons for your childs absence. This makes it a bit easier for Natasha to manage our attendance records and Deb to organise the lunches.
Chrome Book Use
Our school is well resourced allowing every student to be allocated a chrome book each to use during their learning time at school. We have had a number of students who have used their chrome books in a way that is in breach of the I.C.T User agreement. A reminder to all students that chrome books are to be used as a tool for their own learning. Chatting with others, playing on line games or watching inappropriate You Tube videos is not acceptable and students will lose the use of their chrome book for a set period of time. We would like to thank our whānau with support and understanding if we have contacted them. It is about keeping our students safe when engaging in on-line learning and activities.
Covid 19 Protection Framework
You will all be aware that the Government has agreed to remove the Covid 19 Protection Framework as of 11.59 p.m. Monday 12th September.
The two key changes impacting education providers are:
- The removal of the requirement for household contacts to isolate. Instead, they will be asked to test for COVID-19 for five days.
- Masks are no longer required on public transport or school transport and in line with other mask changes, they are no longer strongly recommended in school settings.
Positive cases remain legally required to isolate for seven days. Anyone who is symptomatic, including household contacts, should stay at home and get tested for COVID-19.
We will continue to support students and staff who choose to wear masks.
Saturday Netball
Both of our Saturday netball teams have completed their Saturday competition. Congratulations to all players, coaches and whānau for their continued support during this season. You all soldiered on even with the challenges of the weather.
Can all players please return your netball uniform to the school office please and uniform bonds will be refunded.
Building Work Update
We are hoping to be able to move back into the main administration before the end of the term. There is still other smaller projects that will occur during the holidays which includes the installation of new south facing windows for Rooms 1, 2 and 3.
We have spent the last two terms out in the cube, so it will be great to be able to settle back into the main office and organise everything into one central location. I would like to thank our staff, students and whānau for your flexibility while the building work has been going on.
Open Night Trailer
We held a very successful Open Night on Wednesday with our Brio group performing for the first time this year. We are looking forward to trophy night and being able to use our hall.
School Board Matters - Change of Constitution
Our School Board would like to inform our community that the School Board will be voting on making a change to our constitution. Specifically, we are looking at changing the number of community representatives from 5 to 3. This is because of low candidate interest over the last few elections.
The vote will be held at our next School Board meeting on Monday 19th September 2022. This meeting will be open to the public.
