Hilltop Herald - Parent Edition

Be Respectful ~ Be Responsible ~ Be Resilient

Volume 2 ~ Issue 16~ November 13, 2023

Wonderful Falcon Families,

“Gratitude can transform common days into thanksgivings, turn routine jobs into joy, and change ordinary opportunities into blessings.” ~William Arthur Ward

As we go into the Thanksgiving week, I want us to focus on all that is good. Eckhart Tolle once said, "Acknowledging the good that you already have in your life is the foundation for all abundance." It is impossible to be grateful and be depressed at the same time. And being grateful for what we have is a choice. I want you to take time this week to list all the good in your lives and verbally express your gratitude for them.

FLAGS Multicultural Fair this Friday, November 17, 2023

Falcon Families, please come and join us this Friday, November 17 from 5:30pm -7:30pm. See flyer below.

Turkey Trot this Thursday, November 16, 2023

Congratulations to all students who qualified to be in the finals of the Turkey Trot. This year, Turkey Trot Finals will be held by grade level with seventh (7th) graders going first during their advisory periods while eighth (8th) graders are having lunch. Then, we will switch with eighth (8th) graders running during their advisory periods and seventh (7th) graders will have their lunch. Parents, if your child qualified for the Turkey Trot finals, you will be able to watch them run. Please come early so that we can check you in via our Raptor system. You will need to have an US government-issued ID that we can run it through the system. No ID, no entrance.

Final Semester Grades Reminder

Falcons, we are 20 days from the last day of semester 1. If you are passing all your classes, then continue to be diligent about making sure that you pass all your classes by the end of the semester. However, if you are failing one or more classes, you need to go to tutoring or attend your teacher's intervention, if offered, so that you will pass your classes by the end of the semester. Eighth graders, this is especially important for you as you need to pass all your classes this year in order to participate in promotion ceremony in June

Winter Sports Tryouts Starts This Week

Students, soccer and field hockey tryouts will take place this week and the week after thanksgiving. You must be enrolled in Falcon Flight in order to tryout AND you must complete the Aktivate registration for all athletes. Please make sure you join in the next two weeks. Please read the Winter Sports Tryouts section below. If you have any questions, please email Ms. Pulido at jessica.pulido@sweetwaterschools.org or Mr. Horton at joshua.horton@sweetwaterschools.org.

Please make sure that you read the newsletter in its entirety to ensure that you are in the KNOW of what is happening at HTM.

Sincerely,

Mrs. Finley

Eighth graders, we have been informing you since seventh grade that it is expected for the 21 credit promotion requirements to be in effect in order for you to participate in the promotion ceremony and receive a certificate of promotion. This is, in fact, the reality. Now that you have received your second progress report of the week, it is important to create a plan of action to make sure that you pass all your classes this semester and year.

If you PASSED ALL your classes last year, then you are on track to participate in all promotional activities. If you FAILED ONE CLASS OR MORE, you may not be on track to participate in the promotion ceremony and receive a certificate of promotion. It depends on which class you failed. If you failed a class or more AND took summer school for that class, then you may be back on track.

This week, middle school principals will be developing a common plan of action for credit recovery that will be applicable to all middle schools. Additionally, if you have failed classes in seventh grade, your counselors will be reaching out to you to discuss your options.

The next five weeks is very important because you must ensure that you are passing all your classes. Below is the list of the 21 credits required in order to participate in promotion activities at the end of the school year.
