Magers Memo
January 12th, 2019
Updates from Crystal
I want to first thank you for taking 30 minutes of your plan time to discuss your MOY reflection! I have been very impressed with the level of data study and reflection shared on these forms. I firmly believe that looking at data, reflecting on the why behind the data and shifting instruction based on the data is the key to moving students and growth as an educator. I would encourage you as you list the things you have participated in or done for PL to continue to reflect on how this has shifted your instruction and what changes you have made day to day in your classroom based on your reflections. This is hands down my favorite part of the school year! I see so much growth in students-you should be encouraged by that! If you didn't see as much growth as you hoped, use that to reflect and try something different. Nothing changes until something changes. If what you try is based on data and best practice, you have permission to try and even to fail. Sometimes the BEST learning comes from failing, and failing leads to the BIGGEST growth. I challenge you to try something new this year! I promise to do the same! Also, please make sure you are making positive calls home, sending positive emails, notes...it's easy to focus on the areas that need improvement. Make sure you are taking time to celebrate the small successes and making parents aware also. Lastly-if you haven't heard me say it lately-I LOVE BEING PRINCIPAL AT SHERWOOD AND A PART OF YOUR TEAM!
This Week:
- I am out of the building all day on Monday for the PL Advisory Council Meeting at KAC (Misty will be here).
- Grade Level Team Meetings were moved to Tuesday, but TST is also on Wednesday. To avoid taking 2 days of plan time this week-grade level team meetings will be cancelled and instead I will finish up 1 on 1 MOY meetings. So, if you signed up for an MOY meeting this week those will happen on Tuesday and there will be NO GRADE LEVEL TEAM MEETINGS. The schedule is as follows: 9-9:30 Osborn, 9:30-10 Brooks, 11:30-12 Matson, 1:30-2 Weaver, 2-2:30 Schaefer, 2:30-3 Maerz and 3-3:30 Travis.
- TST meetings are next Wednesday. Please make sure your TST data is updated PRIOR to the meeting so that we can focus on looking at data during those meetings. Thank you for having this done prior to the meeting.
- We have 24 desks finally here & put together! They are in the project lab. I know that some classrooms were missing desks, so please only take them if you were one of those rooms. Lynn can deliver them to your classroom. Please email Bri to let her know if and how many desks you need.
Reminders:
- After school dismissal duty schedule is here. Please make sure you are at your duty position each day, so other staff are not left shorthanded.
- MOY Reflection Form is here. Please make sure you complete this prior to meeting w/Crystal. If you haven't scheduled this meeting please do so asap.
- Don't forget to have your class create something for the Central Bank Time Capsule. Please turn the envelope in to the office when done.
- CPI Training Dates are here as a reminder:

From HR: Reminder...
To Eligible SPS R-12 Employees,
Welcome back to another great week with SPS! A friendly reminder that we are now in our 2nd timeline for the Early Incentive Notice- $750. Springfield Public Schools is dedicated to retain and recruit the best teachers and leaders for all of our students throughout the system. As part of our Strategic Plan, Focus 2, Goal 1: To create a culture that empowers employees and provides each student access to a qualified and effective teacher in every classroom, an effective principal in every school and an effective employee in every position, we want to show our appreciation to those who notify the district as early as possible about their intent to retire or resign. We greatly value our educators who teach our students every day; however, if we are going to lose you to, we would like to find the best fit for our students in a timely manner. We would like to have an advantage of securing the top available education talent and are committed to retaining and continuing to hire the best. For a fourth year in a row, we are offering an “Early Notification Incentive” for those in a school-based position which requires a teaching or administrative certification- teachers and principals who submit their separation notice early as listed below. The letter of separation would be active at the end of the employee’s 2018-2019 contract.
Eligible employees will be provided an opportunity to receive a:
- $1000 Early Notification Incentive if declared in writing to Human Resources by Friday, January 4, 2019- completed.
- $750 Early Notification Incentive if declared in writing to Human Resources between Saturday, January 5- Friday, February 1, 2019.
- $500 Early Notification Incentive if declared in writing to Human Resources between Saturday, February 2- Friday, March 1, 2019.
All notices must be in writing and accompany the attached Early Notification Incentive form. Send it directly to Human Resources at humanresources@spsmail.org or via interoffice mail (blue bag) to: Attention: KAC/HR Services. A copy also needs to be provided to your principal/supervisor by the stated deadline. Human Resources will email the employee to verify the letter was received.
New! SPS is proud to share that we now have an enhanced, more efficient way for employees to submit their notice of intent to resign or retire (“Notice of Separation”) through the TalentEd Records platform!
Note: For employees who have already submitted their Notice of Separation & Early Incentive Notice Form, they will be entered in TalentEd Records this week through HR. See the January 2019 HR Newsletter for additional information or your direct supervisor.
