Action Items!
All new teacher laptops need to have a BIOS update run by Friday, Oct. 13th.
If you do not run this update, eventually you will lose the ability to connect to any network, wired or wirelessly.
- The update may take up to 20 minutes. I recommend starting the update before taking your kids out to buses.
- Only run the BIOS version 106 update! Don't run any other versions.
- You must be plugged into power for the update to work!
- Once update is in progress, you may see the laptop restart 1-2 times.
- ***If this update isn't performed, your new laptop will start losing connectivity on both wired and wireless connections.
- How in the world do I start the update? It will be in the System Center – Software Center area on the machine. Click here for Directions.
- If the update doesn't appear in the list, then check back daily to see if it pops up. Let me know if it doesn't appear by Friday.

You Can Learn Anything
Goal Setting
As you are working toward your own PLG for this school year, remember to model goal setting for your students. Show them that you too are working to strenghten your skills in certain areas. Communicate to them the ways you will work to achieve your goal(s) and challenge them to hold you accountable. The video below from Khan Academy would be a great way to hook kids prior to setting their own learning goals for the 17-18 school year. Encourage them to think BIG! Learn more about setting goals with your students from the Minds in Bloom blog or check out John Spencer's 5-minute conferencing guides. He outlines 3 types of conferencing: Advice, Reflection, and Assessment Conferencing.
