Ms. Hess and Mrs. Baxter
Class News 1 - 29 - 2016
We can't believe we just finished the last week in January! How fast the month flew by! You know what that means...February is just around the corner and so is Valentine's Day! This year our Valentine’s Day party will be held on Friday, February 12th. Students may bring a decorated box or bag to school along with valentines for each student in our room. Tradition is for there to be a valentine’s box competition. There will be small prizes award for boxes that go above and beyond. In the past awards were given for ‘Most Valentine-y,’ ‘Most Creative,’ ‘Best Sports Themed,’ “Most Resourceful/Repurposed’, ‘Most Detailed’ and more. The contest is entirely optional. For those not interested in decorating or designing, a plain paper bag will do. Please send these anytime the week of February 8th.
In Science, we were busy planting wheat grass and testing variables to see what plants need to make their own food. In Reading, we are focused on hyperbole (exaggeration), visualization, point of view all in Tall Tales, such as Paul Bunyan and Pippy Longstocking. In Social Studies we presented our Explorer Google Slide and a Kahoot the students made. We would love to see the students share their work with you at home! In Math we are solidifying prime factorization and multiplication of large numbers, so we can focus on division. Kahn academy would be a great resource if your student is struggling with US standard algorithm for multi-digit numbers (234 x 58).

In PE, with Mrs. Neubauer gone, students are still working hard on their tumbling unit. We included a few pictures for your enjoyment!
Our trip to the Capitol and the Museum have been set for Friday, April 15th. This day all students will need to have a sack lunch. Also we will not be getting back from the trip until about 4:30pm. We wanted to give you the date and a few details. More information to come!
If you have not set up your spring PLP time, please email your student's teacher. The results of the assessments taken will be shared at our spring PLPs March 1, 2, and 3.

Family Fun Night Baskets
This year we are putting together 2 gift baskets to raffle off at the Family Fun Night. We are in charge of bringing items to put in the baskets.
Here are the themes of each class:
Ms. Hess: Nerf & Candy Craze
Mrs. Baxter: Movie Night & First Aide
We would love for each student to bring in one item for each basket for the teacher by Friday, February 19th. This will enable us to make room for all items in the basket before closing them up.
~Thanks in advance for making this event a success!~
