Sheldon Community Responder
A Sheldon Community Responder is a volunteer that responds to “alerts” sent by the 15th Night Coordinator for needs specific to SHS students that have not been met by internal school resources. These type of alerts would be for items such as clothing, shoes, small household items, food or bedding.
A Sheldon Community Responder would receive a text message indicating a need. If the Responder can provide the need, they respond to the text message and work with the SHS Coordinator to secure and deliver the item.

Sheldon Volleyball - STATE CHAMPS
Congratulations to the 2022 Southwest Conference and OSAA State Champion Sheldon Volleyball Team. Led by Martine Wodke, Allix Baker and Chelsea Fosback, this team was recognized by the OSAA volleyball officials for the positive sportsmanship on and off the court. They are great examples and should be very proud.
Please take the time to acknowledge and congratulate them:
Virtual Screening - The Upstanders
Virtual screenings will be available from December 5th thru December 12th.
11/2022 – The Upstanders is unsettling and uplifting, causing us all to examine our behavior, inspiring us to do better, be better, and stand up against victimization and cyber-bullying. 4J Families can view The Upstanders virtually between December 5th at 8 AM PST and December 12th at 8:30 PM. The link for viewing will be sent to all families via email.
In partnership with 4J Prevention Services, there will also be a community screening on December 9th from 6-7 pm with a debrief following immediately after, from 7-8 pm at the Campbell Community Center.
The Upstanders delves deep into cyber-bullying, showing the perspectives of those who bully, their victims, and the trauma of the bystander. Woven through this film is the very personal, first-hand account of a family’s tragic loss that inspired new legislation to turn the tide against this very real epidemic. True stories are featured alongside the latest scientific and medical research and strategies to empower all communities to stand up against bullying.
The 56-minute film features in-depth interviews with kids, families who have lost their children to cyber-bullying-related suicide, and the very best experts in the world from prestigious institutions including Stanford University and Child Mind Institute in NYC. The Upstanders also includes two members of Oprah’s 2020 Vision Tour: Jesse Israel of The Big Quiet, Radha Agrawal of Daybreaker, and author of Belong.
Covid-19 has only acerbated this problem of cyber abuse, by providing a bully-ripe environment of isolation, anxiety, and increased time on screens. Most often driven by pain, bullies are searching for that jolt of power when putting someone else down – and there is plenty of pain going around now.
Through its experts, the film explores
- The science behind cyber-bullying
- Why kids are afraid to admit they are cyber-bullied and what signs to watch for
- Best ways to support your cyber-bullied child
- How to realize if you are harboring a cyber-bully
- How the community can show resilience and power to end bullying

Communications Survey Deadline Nov. 28
Parents, staff and community asked for feedback on district, school communications
Eugene School District 4J has begun a comprehensive communications audit to evaluate and improve how they provide information and engage with families, staff and the community. The district is working with an independent auditor to conduct the assessment.
As a first step, the district is asking 4J families, staff and community members to share their feedback via a brief online survey. The anonymous survey takes about 10 minutes to complete.
To ensure that everyone has the opportunity to provide input, the survey deadline has been extended to Monday, Nov. 28.
Thank you for participating in our SCoPE Parent/Family Survey. We welcome your honest feedback on the effectiveness of the communication you receive from your child's school, teachers and the district offices. We expect this information will help us determine those areas where our communication is working and those that may need to be enhanced.
Wondering About Winter Weather?
Información en español Learn More | Text Messages | Staff Info When winter weather makes conditions hazardous, schools may be closed or delayed or buses may use snow routes. The school district decides early in the morning whether there is a need to change the school schedule or bus routes.
Volunteer in Eugene School District 4J
Información en español In today's schools, there are simply far more jobs and responsibilities than there are people to do them. By helping with special events and routine tasks, volunteers allow teachers and staff to focus more on helping children learn and grow.
