Message from the Principal
I don't know about you, but the fatigue of Distance Learning was starting to set in when we were once again hit with an environmental emergency of fires once again. Not only were we dealing with a global pandemic, but now fires, evacuations, poor air quality, loss of work, the list goes on. Our community is so resilient, but at the same time, it feels like we can only handle so much. What are you doing as a family to get through this time? What takes you through each day or week? Sometimes, it is just getting out and doing something different! A friend invited me to a 5K Family Run in Healdsburg that they do every Friday evening. As bad as the air was last Friday, we had such a great time! Please share your thoughts with me on this Padlet. https://padlet.com/rrocha6/njazcybeijatb1ms
Please join us on Friday, October 30th for a Drive Through Treat Pick Up & Optional Costume Parade! We have ordered Distance Learning materials for students who need them, including: cardboard study carrels, magazine boxes to store materials, pencil pouches, and timers. We have 200 of each.
We will also be distributing brand new take home libraries (collection of 5 books & book bag) for all students in grades TK-3rd grades (4th-6th will be getting books at a later time). If your child is not in need of the Distance Learning supplies and is in grades 4-6, you are welcome to drive through for a healthy treat! We also have headphones & computer mouse for students that need them!
Study Carrels limit distractions at home!

Nuts & Bolts
MAP Growth Assessment: Parents of 1st-6th graders, you may have heard from your child's teacher that our school is doing this online assessment. Some students started the assessment. We were just informed today that the District decided that we do not need to administer it. It proved to be extremely challenging to administer this remotely.
I-Station: This is a new, online adaptive reading program we are going to start using this month. Teachers will be instructing your child to take his/her screener assessment soon. If you have a school chromebook, the app is already available from Classlink. All other students will access Istaion from Classlink, but if they have their own device, they need to download the app. If they click on the prompts, there will be different options as to how to do this: Android Playstore, Google Chrome, etc.
The purpose of this initial assessment is to level your child. That is why it is SUPER important that parents DO NOT help their child with this assessment. It is a screener that informs instruction as well as provide content for what your child needs help with in the areas of literacy. The screener should take about 30 minutes. The more advanced your child is, the longer the assessment will take, as it is adaptive. It measures their reading level through college. Remember parents, please DO NOT help your child with this screener!
What does I-Station provide for students?
It works with students at their own level in the areas of reading in Spanish (Tk-6th grade) and English (3rd-6th grade) including:
- Book and Print Awareness
- Listening Comprehension
- Phonological Awareness
- Writing Conventions
- Syllabic and Phonemic Awareness
- Letter Writing and Spelling
- Vocabulary Development
- Word Analysis
- Reading Comprehension
- Making Connections Across Text
- Text Fluency
- Genre study
I-station is now on Classlink, and your child's teacher will assign the placement test portion of the program soon. Once students complete the placement test, they can start working daily. I-station will be an important part of our a-synchronous learning time. If your child is using their own device, if they click on I-station in Classlink, it will lead them to download the app. Once the app is downloaded on their personal device, they need to log out of Classlink and restart, then they can access I-station within Classlink. Each month, I-Station will administer another assessment to see how students are progressing through the program. For more information on I-Station, visit their website: https://www.istation.com/Spanish

Distance Learning Feedback:
Our District is seeking feedback from students on their experience thus far with Distance Learning. Parents were sent a prompt in Parent Square with a Google Form. If your child would like to participate, please submit their response by Nov. 1.

Thanks to all of you who have assisted in logging your child onto Classlink. This is our "single sign-on" platform where students sign into one place and have access to all of their online learning platforms (SeeSaw, Google Classroom, Learning A-Z, Newsela) without having to memorize passwords for each program. We are in the process of working with our District IT to get all of our other programs uploaded to Classlink: Dreambox, Reflex, Epic, etc. Thank you for your patience.

Social Emotional Corner: Counselor & Restorative
Also, SRCS has an Integrated Wellness Center which also offers counseling. You can self-refer your child there. For more information, visit: https://www.srcschools.org/domain/2112
Restorative: Dear Parents:
We hope you and your loved ones are doing well and that things are beginning to return to “normal” after the Glass Fire. Our hearts and minds go out to you, and especially those of you that had to evacuate, or regrettably relocate. Coupled with the pandemic this is not an easy moment. But please know we are here for you and that you’ll always have support here at CCLA. We encourage you to reach out to us and to join us on Wednesday October 28th, at 6pm to launch our new parent group.
We would like to conclude by leaving you with a few words that you may be useful as we navigate the days ahead as parents: what type of example do we wish to be to our children, especially now, when so much around us is uncertain? In many ways our children are learning from us what it means to be strong, resilient and compassion and are following our lead. What type of example are we providing?
