Preparing for Inclement Weather at the Beginning of the Week

CMS Families,

As you are aware, Hurricane Ida made landfall today and will work its way into our state in the morning based on forecast models shared by local meteorologists. AS OF TODAY, THERE HAS BEEN NO ANNOUNCEMENT MADE REGARDING ANY CANCELLATION OF JEFFERSON COUNTY SCHOOLS. Please help us on Monday and Tuesday in the following ways:

  • Buses may run more slowly on Monday to compensate for water on roads or students who have taken shelter from potential rain. Please be patient as route times may be altered.
  • If you are in a car or truck, please pull up all the way to the fence at the end of the awning in morning and afternoon carline so that we can better serve our students should it be raining.
  • Tell your students if they are car riders or bus riders early on both days and stick to those plans unless an emergency occurs.
  • Encourage your student to look for his/her ride in the carline and go the the vehicle at the appropriate time as he/she is released by a member of the faculty. No one wants to stand in the rain waiting because a student is socializing and not paying attention or listening.
  • Have your students dress appropriately for rain and wear appropriate footwear.
  • Please avoid calling the school multiple times throughout the day to ask if the game(s) are still on. Should a decision be made to cancel any event, we will notify you immediately through our Blackboard Communicate system and social media. If an announcement is not made before the end of the school day, the events will occur as scheduled.

Thank you for your assistance as we work to avoid any issues related to inclement weather which may occur!

In Case You Missed It . . . Updates to Jefcoed COVID Response Plan (Re-Post)

Last week, our district updated its COVID Response Plan for all schools. An email was sent out to families of all students on August 25th from Jefferson County Superintendent, Dr. Walter Gonsoulin, outlining procedural changes for masks and quarantines/exclusions.

We wanted to notify you that when we are notified of a positive case involving a student or a staff member here at our school, we will notify you as soon as possible so that you can make important decisions with your family.

A phone call will come home to you indicating that a student in your child's class or on your child's bus has tested positive. Since many families have multiple children in multiple grades, we will identify the grade level to help you distinguish between children. Please review the information in the letter when you receive this call. Each time a student is identified, you will be notified by phone of this occurrence. Some may occur as early as this evening.

The message will indicate you should review the information in the district letter (that can be found below as a JPEG and a PDF. This information will be place in each Weekly Buzz moving forward so that it can be easily located by families.

The administration, faculty, and staff at Corner Middle School always want your students at school whenever possible. We would, however, encourage you to keep any student who is symptomatic at home. Continue to notify us of students who have tested positive. It is our hope and prayer that you and your family can steer clear of this virus impacting so many at this time! Thank you for your assistance and your continued support of Corner Middle School as we work to navigate choppy waters brought on by this pandemic!
