Dress Code Changes for 2021-2022
The dress codes for the district are reviewed every two years. Each intermediate, junior high, and high school campus formed a dress code committee made up of students and staff, which met to gather input regarding suggested changes to the dress code. Following the campus meetings, the district dress code committee, whose members included school board Vice-President Heather Leggett, an administrator from each intermediate through high school campus, an elementary administrator representative, and Scott Winn met twice to suggest revisions to the dress code. The Board heard the first reading of proposed changes at the March meeting and then voted to accept the changes at the April meeting.
These changes include:
- The length of any shorts, skirts, or dresses may be no shorter than 4 inches as measured from the top of the knee.
- Clothing such as shirts, blouses, and dresses may be sleeveless but must fit under the arms. Spaghetti straps are not acceptable.
- All color pants and shorts are acceptable.
- Jeans/denim-type pants are acceptable. No rips, tears, or holes. Distressing is allowed as long as skin does not show.
- Belts are not required.
- Shorts/skirts may be worn no shorter than 4 inches as measured from the top of the knee and must be worn at the natural waist.
- Any collared shirt – polo, oxford-style, flannel, dress shirt – will be allowed. All writing, pictures, or emblems are acceptable as long as they do not depict violence or are lewd, offensive, vulgar, or obscene in nature. Clothing must not advertise or depict tobacco products, alcoholic beverages, drugs, or other prohibited substance.
- There is no longer a size restriction for brand logos on shirts.
- Sweatshirts/sweaters/sweater vests/light jackets, including denim jackets, may be worn over any appropriate shirt. If the sweatshirt/sweater/sweater vest/light jacket is removed during the school day, the student must still be in dress code.
- All writing, pictures, or emblems on sweatshirts and hoodies are acceptable as long as they do not depict violence or are lewd, offensive, vulgar, or obscene in nature. Clothing must not advertise or depict tobacco products, alcoholic beverages, drugs, or any other prohibited substance.
#betheplus2
As we prepare for a new school year, we want to ensure that all of our Marauders know what to expect when they come to Davis. We work hard to #betheplus2. The philosophy derived from a TED Talk video featuring Rita Pierson. We encourage you to watch it and share in our journey to “find the good” in all we do. “Minus eighteen sucks all the life out of you. Plus two says I ain’t all bad.”
Amen to that.
