Field Day Information!
Field Day in the springtime has been a long-standing tradition for elementary school students, and this year will be no different. Elementary Physical Education teachers from across the County have teamed up to offer fun and challenging at-home activities through the OPEN National Field Day.
OPEN provides instructions, materials, lists and video examples for all Field Day events. The format of OPEN is very flexible for time, group size, and interest. There is no pressure to pack a full day of activities into one long, exhausting day or to complete every activity. Materials are minimal and adaptable, and all skill levels can be challenged and accommodated.
Physical Education teachers will share Field Day resources on Google Classroom each Friday in May (beginning May 7; ending May 28) for students to complete the following week. The goal is for all students to participate over the weekend or during the week (Asynchronous Wednesdays!) and share any photos or videos with the school’s PE teacher(s)
Field Day is completely voluntary for students with no grading involved. Anyone who wants to participate is welcome to start and end at any time, select or ignore events, or modify activities for a child’s abilities, interests, and available time. Each school’s Physical Education teacher is an excellent resource for adapting events and equipment to meet any child’s needs.
