Oakhurst Elementary

December 3, 2020

From the Principal

Greetings Oakhurst families!

I hope you are well and have had a great week. I loved seeing the students on Oakie's News this week. Thank you for continuing to share videos with us. Don't forget to send questions for "Ask Ms. Sanders"! Next Wednesday our PTA is hosting their first in-person event for this year. We have scheduled it in a way to allow for social distancing. We hope many families will participate. Please see the flyer below.

Our Read-A-Thon also began this week. Read-A-Thon is a long standing Oakhurst tradition and we are hoping to achieve great success again this year. We appreciate your participation!

Reminder about the Superintendent's upcoming Town Halls

Join Superintendent Dr. Dude for a conversation on the status of the District’s reopening plans and initiatives. Also, the community will have an opportunity to ask questions via our new thoughtexhange tool which will be used to submit questions and rank previously asked questions. The link to thoughtexchange will be available under the announcements section of our CSD home (www.csdecatur.net) page 24 hours prior to the town hall. CSPC Report

On the evening of Monday, November 30, the final report from the CSD COVID-19 Stakeholder Planning Committee (CSPC) was sent out via email. This report will advise the school district on its response and plans related to COVID-19. This committee is not a decision-making body, instead, their role was to make recommendations for consideration by the CSD administrative team and/or Board of Education. CSD leaders will use this report as a major source of information for their deliberations regarding what the next phase of pandemic-learning looks like in CSD. This report is not “the plan” for what comes next; that will come from the administrative team in the next week or so.

More information about the committee can be found at https://www.csdecatur.net/cspc. There you can read more about this committee, find their meeting minutes, their list of members and subcommittee, and their final recommendations once they are published here: https://www.csdecatur.net/cspc.

Meal Delivery Reminder

As a reminder, there will be no meal deliveries during the Holiday Break from, Monday, December 15 through Tuesday, January 5, 2020.

The Parents Network is hosting another virtual Part 2: Parents Under Pressure speaker event on December 7 at 7:00 pm.

A continuing conversation with Dr. Jeannine Jannot. (***NOTE TO WRITERS: Obviously remove this if your newsletter goes out after December 7.)

This month, we move from a webinar format to an interactive meeting so we can all speak up and share.

Dealing with family stress continues to be a top concern for us all. Let's work together to find new ways to cope and thrive.

We encourage participants to make connections and share resources as we explore the following together:

  • Coping with parenting stress in pandemic conditions
  • Managing your own self-care (physical and emotional)
  • Balancing work, school, and other life demands (time management, organization, time management, energy management, boundaries, sleep)
  • Identifying when someone needs an extra helping hand, and where to turn when help is needed.

What’s Up Wednesday for 2nd-Graders Next Week

Hello, Owls! Nurse Durham and I have really been enjoying our “What’s Up Wednesday: Staying Strong Together” meetings with each grade level. It is so enjoyable to connect

with so many students in this forum. The kids seem to really be excited about talking with others who may not be in their class and are staying engaged and offering great ideas during our mini health and wellness lessons.

Next week, we will meet with any 2nd-graders who are available and would like to join us.

Remember, just go to the “What’s Up Wednesday” link for your grade level in Google Classroom and we’ll see you there!

We’ll be sure to let parents and students know what the January “What’s Up Wednesday” schedule will be. Stay safe and I miss you! Ms. Deming, School Counselor
