From the Principal
Greetings Oakhurst families!
I hope you are well and have had a great week. I loved seeing the students on Oakie's News this week. Thank you for continuing to share videos with us. Don't forget to send questions for "Ask Ms. Sanders"! Next Wednesday our PTA is hosting their first in-person event for this year. We have scheduled it in a way to allow for social distancing. We hope many families will participate. Please see the flyer below.
Our Read-A-Thon also began this week. Read-A-Thon is a long standing Oakhurst tradition and we are hoping to achieve great success again this year. We appreciate your participation!
Flybrary: Only one more Flybrary pick up day (Wednesday 11-12) left before the three week break, so reserve your books today! Click here for more details on how to check out books from the media center.
Flybrary Book Returns: Library books should be returned on Wednesdays (11-12) at the Flybrary pickup location.
Book Bundles: Want your child to check out books but not sure which ones to choose? Let us choose for you! Use this Book Bundle Request form to give us some information and we’ll curate a bundle (four books) just for your child! Book Bundles can be picked up during Flybrary hours (Wednesdays 11 - 12).
Book Bundle Repeat Patron: If your child has already received a Book Bundle, you can request additional book bundles by filling out this short Book Bundle Repeat Patron form to let us know if you’d like us to use the same information you originally entered or if you’d like to make changes or specific requests. If we don’t receive a completed form from you by Tuesday at noon, we will assume you aren’t checking out a book bundle.
From the PTA
Take-out Tuesday - Thank you so much for making our first Take-out Tuesday a huge success for both our local restaurant Scout and our PTA! Please join us, again next week, Tuesday, December 8th for our second Take-out Tuesday sponsored by Wahoo! Grill. Celebrate our final school week in 2020, take the night off from cooking and support our local restaurant and PTA! We so appreciate the support!
Reminder about the Superintendent's upcoming Town Halls
Join Superintendent Dr. Dude for a conversation on the status of the District’s reopening plans and initiatives. Also, the community will have an opportunity to ask questions via our new thoughtexhange tool which will be used to submit questions and rank previously asked questions. The link to thoughtexchange will be available under the announcements section of our CSD home (www.csdecatur.net) page 24 hours prior to the town hall. (Please see the Guide to Participation sheet below or watch this video to learn more about thoughtexchange.)

The Parents Network is hosting another virtual Part 2: Parents Under Pressure speaker event on December 7 at 7:00 pm.
A continuing conversation with Dr. Jeannine Jannot. (***NOTE TO WRITERS: Obviously remove this if your newsletter goes out after December 7.)
This month, we move from a webinar format to an interactive meeting so we can all speak up and share.
Dealing with family stress continues to be a top concern for us all. Let's work together to find new ways to cope and thrive.
We encourage participants to make connections and share resources as we explore the following together:
- Coping with parenting stress in pandemic conditions
- Managing your own self-care (physical and emotional)
- Balancing work, school, and other life demands (time management, organization, time management, energy management, boundaries, sleep)
- Identifying when someone needs an extra helping hand, and where to turn when help is needed.

What’s Up Wednesday for 2nd-Graders Next Week
Hello, Owls! Nurse Durham and I have really been enjoying our “What’s Up Wednesday: Staying Strong Together” meetings with each grade level. It is so enjoyable to connect
with so many students in this forum. The kids seem to really be excited about talking with others who may not be in their class and are staying engaged and offering great ideas during our mini health and wellness lessons.
Next week, we will meet with any 2nd-graders who are available and would like to join us.
Remember, just go to the “What’s Up Wednesday” link for your grade level in Google Classroom and we’ll see you there!
We’ll be sure to let parents and students know what the January “What’s Up Wednesday” schedule will be. Stay safe and I miss you! Ms. Deming, School Counselor
