Definition- The branch of science that deals with microorganism
- Microbiology is the study of organisms, most of which are too small to be seen with the naked eye, including bacteria, algae, protozoa,fungi,and viruses
- There are 7 main microorganisms in microbiology.
Viruses
Definition-A non-living pathogen that can change mutate,It infects a host cell and replicates to cause illness and disease.
Viruses lack some characteristics of living organisms but Viruses have a core of nucleic acid surrounded by a protein coat, At there core all Viruses contain DNA.
Bacteria
Definition-Single celled protectorates that can cause disease.Multiply rapidly forming colonies.
Fungi
Definition-A single celled or multi cellular organism that can decompose or absorb organic matter.Ex:mushrooms,yeast, or mold.
Parasites
Definition-An organism that lives in or on another organism and benefits by deriving nutrients at the host's expense.
Outbreak
Definition-Occurrence of a disease greater than would otherwise be expected at a particular time and place.
