A CHANGE TO CHOOSING LEARNING OPTIONS
Parents/Guardians:
Just a reminder that families who wish to change their learning option for the Spring semester must do so by Jan. 8. This applies to any family who wants their student to move from remote to in-person learning or from in-person learning to remote. Our goal is to ensure campuses are better able to plan for and accommodate on-campus student levels and stabilize both in-person and remote group sizes.
As such, we ask all families who want to change their learning option for the spring semester to notify their campus by Friday, Jan. 8 using this form. After Jan. 8, changes will NOT be allowed until the end of the grading cycle for your student’s grade. For most of our students, the next change opportunity will be in April. For more information, please visit our Testing and Report Card Calendar.
Lastly, if your remote learner has been struggling academically or with attendance, we’d encourage you to consider in-person learning. Should you need any additional information before making this decision, please reach out to your child’s teacher or your school principal. They would be happy to talk with you about what’s best for your child.
Sincerely,
Spring ISD

REDUCING HOLIDAY STRESS!
Reduce the Holiday Stress
Stress may have increased during the holiday season and with all of the chaos of 2020 stress is sure to cause some health issues. Here are a few ways to help reduce your stress level during this holiday season.
Set boundaries for your schedule.
Focus on what you can control. When you choose to let go of what you can’t control, you’ll automatically reduce the amount of stress in your life by refusing to carry other people’s problems.
Know your role in the situation. We can experience stress by taking on roles we were never meant to shoulder.
Say “No”. Be honest with yourself on what you can handle, and speak up if it’s too much. Prioritize your family’s time and only commit to what you want to do.
Limit your time on social media. There’s an overwhelming amount of information, nonsense and news in our country right now which can cause you to stress.
Reflect on Christmas and what you loved and enjoyed.
THINK POSITIVE - A NEW YEAR IS COMING! SMILE!
Do not overdo it on the sugar. Too much sugar can mess up your natural hormone responses, your blood and insulin levels, and your brain’s neurotransmitters. Mix that with a lack of sleep and a packed schedule, you’ve got the perfect storm for a rush of anxiety.
Get plenty of sleep. When you are not sleeping, your brain’s emotional centers become overactive, which increases anxiety levels.
Protect your downtime. Make time to enjoy the things you love.
Spend time with your family and enjoy the moments together!
TAKING CARE OF TECHNOLOGY!
We have been seeing an increase of broken and damaged Chromebooks.
- Food/Drink on keyboards
- Cracked Screens
- Damaged Chromebooks
- Stickers/Writing on Chromebooks
- Scholars carrying them by the screen
- Scholars throwing them around
- Scholars letting others borrow their devices
We know that this is a huge responsibility for our scholars. The majority of our scholars are doing a fantastic job taking care of their devices and we are extremely proud of their efforts! However, there are some scholars and devices that we have raised concerns about. Please take the time to inspect your scholar's device and remind them about the importance of taking care of their Chromebook. We just need to remind our scholars that these devices must be handled with care. Parents, we also want to reiterate the importance of parental supervision, while students are using these devices. Please pay close attention to:
1. The amount of screen time
2. The type of apps or websites they are visiting
3. The ways in which your scholar is communicating with others through social media websites /apps
4. Who they are communicating with and why
It is important that scholars know about the acceptable use policy and all will be accountable for upholding the student code of conduct. Violating this policy will lead to tough consequences and also may involve local agencies such as CPS or Law Enforcement.
Stay vigilant and always check on your scholar! Parents, please help us out!

HELP PLAN YOUR CHILD'S FUTURE
Check Out the New Education Planning Guides and Start Preparing for the Future
The new Education Planning Guides are now available for our secondary students and rising 5th-graders.
These 2021-22 course guides are designed to help our students and families see all the options available to them as they make decisions about their courses and pathways. The guides contain detailed information on a range of topics, including graduation requirements, advanced placement (AP) and dual credit alternatives, career and technical education (CTE) classes, exams and testing, grading and class rankings, credit recovery options, sports and academic eligibility, and the college admissions process. It also features a “Planning for the Future” section that contains yearly checklists to help students make the most of their education and ensure that they are college and career ready when graduation day arrives.
In January, counselors will start working with students in 5th grade and above to start selecting their classes. Until then, we encourage you to spend some time flipping through the books on our website and getting familiar with what’s available.
