Tasks Needing Your Attention:
**Capture your verbal instruction - dissect your questions - determine what level they are - how are your questions enhancing or holding back your work towards the standards and student independence?
IF 80% of you have collected a lesson recording (my preference would be in math if possible) - I would give the PLC time to analyze it - I'll check in with all on Thursday - this will take some time - so I would be willing to give you time to collect your questions and analyze the depth of your questions. Once we analyze your questions - we could move into a discussion time.
**Be sure to have your Off Limits item: There are many creative and practical ideas
Being Off Limits to your kids is also a reminder for YOU - a reminder for YOU to allow your students to productively struggle BEFORE you jump in
ALL Students, ALL the TIME...
Math Starter Questions - If you want a set, please sign up in the teacher's lounge and we will make you a set.
The Power of Questioning....
On Friday, we talked a lot about the power of our questions. This is part of the reason I have asked you to record a portion of your instruction, document all your questions, determine the level of your questions, and lastly determine who is doing the work - you or your students.
During our discussions - many of you asked for question starters....so above you will find many examples.
Coaches Corner
The following article emphasizes the importance for morphology instruction. Many of the components are part of our lesson plan template, but the article gives great strategies for incorporating morphology instruction in a more explicit manner. We know that the article is specifically speaking towards special education teachers; however, the principles they’ve included would be beneficial for all students. Look at the principles of teaching morphology and share which one you’d be interested in focusing on.
If you have a student answer the phone - please share with them phone etiquette! There have many times in the last week that a student has answered - not friendly or professional! I don't mind if you have a student answer - however, make sure they are taught how to do it appropriately!
Fire Drill
Fire Drill Protocol will be changed up a bit
1. At first, do not just exit the room when an alarm is pulled - stop and assess - only when you hear an announcement or you smell smoke do you exit - if not, take your magnet out and secure your doors and wait.
2. Once it is determined it is a fire drill, you will see cones with a fire sign, these will be strategically placed - so you have to make a decision in the moment - to changes things up a bit.
