Formative Assessment Strategies for: Meta-cognitive Thinking Activities
Very important to model these strategies as often as possible
*Monitoring:
-The author gives me a picture in my mind when he describes
-What might happen next? Why do I think that?
-What was this page about?
-Maybe I should reread this part again and look for specific information.
-How does the graphic on this page help me understand the text?
-Since I don't understand this word, I may need to
-This wasn't what I expected. I expected_____ because ______.
-What can I write or draw that might help me remember and understand what I just read?
If you use any of these strategies, please share with me how it went! Student work samples are also welcomed! Thank you for your commitment to professional growth!

Collaborating with the Junior High
The Junior High School contacted Waterville Primary about an exciting interdisciplinary project the eighth grade language arts and social studies departments have been working on. The eighth grade students have been learning about the Revolutionary War and are using this knowledge to write children's literature. The eighth graders will be coming to our school to share their completed children's books on Tuesday, December 22nd. The students will be rotating in small groups of 3 to share their stories on ipads with the elementary classes. As of now, the eighth graders will be visiting grade levels 2-4. If extra groups attend, we will include first grade and try to let you know as soon as possible. We have created a schedule and will share it with you all as soon as we have final approval from the Junior High teachers. They will arrive here at 9:45am and stay until 10:45am. You will have multiple groups present to your class.
This will be a wonderful opportunity for our eighth graders to gain experience with presenting in front of larger groups of people, teach our students about the Revolutionary War, see all of their hard work come together into a project, and for our students to practice with being good listeners. We are really looking forward to collaborating with the Junior High staff and students next week!
The second grade program was fantastic!
Thank you Leslie for all of your hard work!
A surprise visit from Santa!

AIR Testing:
Below are three links related to testing. The first is simply the log in for AIR. You may want to bookmark that as we will be using that frequently in the months to come.
The second is a link to the PDF of the test administrator user guide.
The third is an actual test administrator certification course. It is pretty good. AIR works basically the same as it did last year with some minor modifications.
