Mayo Elementary
December News
December Greetings!
I am so grateful to the Mayo community for working to keep our community safe, and our staff and students healthy and present in school. Please be sure when you send your students to school they are wearing a mask and have at least one spare, clean mask in their backpack. Students must wear their masks correctly, covering their nose. Please be sure to wash and/or change masks nightly so students start each day with a fresh mask.
We continue to follow AACPS protocols, but we need your help to keep all staff and students healthy. Click here for information on what families can do to keep us all healthy, and please be sure to keep your student home if they have any symptoms mentioned here on the AACPS Daily Screening Student Checklist. If you ever have a question, please call the school and ask to speak to the Health Room or email our school nurse, Mrs. Hutzell, at nurse4212@aacps.org.
As we turn the page on 2021, a true gift I have been given is each of your students. I am thankful to be a part of the Mayo Elementary community and look forward to all we will accomplish in 2022!
Season's Greetings,
Mrs. Fox, Principal
Be An Advocate for People with Disabilities
December 3rd is International Persons with Disabilities Day. Here at Mayo Elementary we will observe this day with various activities in the classroom and facts throughout the day. If students would like to represent all disabilities and the idea of inclusion they should wear tie dye or rainbow colors. They may also choose a specific disability that they want to raise awareness for by wearing the coordinating ribbon color.
Here are some facts about people with disabilities that might be helpful to share with students.
Here are some ways that you can support people with disabilities in your community:
Donate your time or money to the Maryland Special Olympics
Read books that showcase characters with disabilities
Encourage your children to have open conversations, ask questions, and learn.
