Egg Harbor Township High School
Week of October 3, 2021
A Message From Our Principal
Greetings,
We have had an exciting week here at the High School! Chromebooks were distributed on Tuesday and Wednesday. If your child did not receive a Chromebook, please contact any Assistant Principal as these devices will be necessary for the state testing next week. Speaking of next week, our 9th, 10th and 12th grade students will be taking the Start Strong State tests. Testing will take place on Wed, October 13th, during the morning rotation. No classes will run during the morning rotation. The normal bell schedule will resume no later than Block 4. Students in 9th, 10th, and 12th will report directly to their testing room. I ask that students be present in school, on time, and have their Chromebooks with them. Our juniors will not be tested but there will be locations for them to go while testing is happening.
Mr. Bell, along with the Student Council, is organizing our homecoming activities. There will be a pep rally on Friday, October 22 with a home football game that evening. On October 23 we will have a homecoming dance at the High School. Tickets are on sale for that up through October 15.
Our girls soccer team had their Senior Night on Tuesday October 5. Our Field Hockey team had their first loss to Ocean City in a nail biting overtime! They will host their Senior Night on Tuesday October 12. Come out to cheer on our Field Hockey team at 10:00 AM on Saturday, October 9, then stay to see our football team play Atlantic City for a 1:00 PM start.
Our Multicultural Club is partnering with Fernwood Avenue Middle School to help the Atlantic City Rescue Mission with a Soctober event. See the Fernwood or High School web page for details.
Until next week, have a wonderful weekend! Stay safe, be well, continue to dream of the possibilities ahead of us, be happy and smile at someone!
Ms. Connor

Student Assistance Program and Resources
The High School has adopted a new bullying-prevention program for this school year! #DAY1--a staff and student-led philosophy that will serve to foster a building-wide atmosphere of kindness and inclusion. This program was started a few years ago in Bergen County by the Tyler Clementi Foundation and has gained momentum throughout the state and country for use in schools, community groups, workplaces, and sports teams. We even have 3 of our own students who were selected by the foundation as leaders for this initiative! The premise is simple: the adults in the building make a “declaration statement” about behavior that is expected, as well as behavior that is unacceptable, and we all pledge to conduct ourselves accordingly. This includes seeking help when we witness unacceptable behavior occurring. This notion is called being an #Upstander.
Has your student taken their #Upstander Pledge yet?!? Have them sign into their school accounts and click here! 😊

GIRLS VOLLEYBALL
GIRLS SOCCER
EHT started off the week celebrating senior night with a draw with Hammonton 1-1 on Monday night. EHT took the lead with a goal by sophomore Gabriella Piantadosi assisted by Maddie Eye midway through the first half. Hammonton scored late in the second off a direct kick to tie the game and send it into overtime. Action was end to end, but neither team was able to break through. Congratulations to the class of 2022: Ava Clemas, Ahtziri Garcia, Jenna Green, Violette Malpartida, Jessica Molina, Givonna Mormile, Tiffani Ngyuen, Alicia Page, Amanda Piskun, Samantha Potishnak, Katrina Suarez, and Adeline Umphlett.
The Lady Eagles followed up Monday's draw with a victory over Atlantic Christian Academy 5-0 on Wednesday. Maddie Eye, Gabriella Piantadosi, Alicia Page, and Jessica Molina all scored while Abby Lyon recorded the shutout for EHT. With the win, the girls' soccer team moves to 4-2-2 on the year.
BOYS SOCCER
EHTHS Boys soccer traveled to Hammonton on Monday, October 4 for a showdown with the #1 team in Group III South Jersey. EHT had lost at home to Hammonton earlier in the season and knew how important a win on the road would be. EHT started strong with a first half goal from Gilmer Mendoza as he danced his way around defenders for a right footed blast just inside the 18-yard box. EHT was not done scoring as Jude Urban added a second goal with genius technique and gracefulness as he juked defenders and the goalie before finishing with a highlight reel goal. EHT peppered Hammonton throughout the second half but could not find the back of the net. Meanwhile, EHT's defense was 'lockdown' as Hammonton could not generate any offensive threat. EHT finished with a huge 2 nil victory on the road. Senior Nick Marin had the shutout win.
EHTHS Boys hosted AC on Wednesday, October 6. Wednesday night was Senior Night and the boys were pumped up. All 12 seniors and their families were recognized before the game and the Senior's paved the way to victory. Jude Urban tallied the first goal with a pass from Joey Martin. After adjustments were made at halftime, the Eagles responded with even more energy and clinical passing before a second goal was scored by Ryan Evenson, Joey Martin had his second assist. The Senior's refused to concede a goal and kept a clean sheet. Senior Nick Marin had the shutout. EHT improved to 7-3 on the season.
FOOTBALL
The EHTHS Eagles lost a hard-fought battle to Ocean City 24 - 7. The defensive effort was lead by James Mahana, John Mahana, Mike Simeon, and Malachi Rollins. The offensive ground attack was lead by Rondell Vaughan, Christian Rando, and Mohamed Soumaworo. The Eagles are looking to rebound this Saturday 1pm vs Atlantic City.
