Principal Message: Veterans, Thank You For Your Service
We celebrated our nation’s veterans this week. This week concluded our Operation Kids for Troops, a collection of items to send overseas to active service men and women. The entire project is facilitated by Angela Gould, our media specialist, whose husband served overseas and is now a veteran. Mrs. Gould led a group of student leaders that worked the past few weeks making announcements, fliers, organizing the collection, and finally packing boxes. Thank you to those that contributed and helped with this project.
In addition, we celebrated all veterans at our annual Veterans Day assembly. As part of the assembly, we invited veterans that had a connection to a Glacier Ridge student. Veterans and their families heard from our guest speaker, Carl Ey, who was on duty and present at the Pentagon during 9/11. In addition, we heard about the white table ceremony, which honors lost and fallen soldiers.
To celebrate, our 3rd graders sang patriotic songs while veterans had a light breakfast. Students formed a tunnel and clapped for our veterans. In addition, all students helped to write personal letters, signs, and decorations to honor our guests.
This week was a great learning opportunity for our students to see kindness in action. Our kind acts of service help to bring appreciation and support to the veterans that had a greater act of service supporting our country. This was a full school effort, with every student and every staff member engaging in some capacity to make this event happen. In addition, the PTO, Tim Hortons, Sawmill Forests, and Party City, JF Baking Co., volunteers, and community members contributed funding, donated materials, and volunteered time to support the event.
Ask your child about the learning and activities this week to honor our country and veterans.
Happy Veterans Day,
Pete Kurty, Ed. D

Car line reminders
We work diligently to have an efficient but safe car line for families and students. Please see the following reminders if you currently use the car line or will do so at any point in the year.
Please follow the traffic flow by alternating cars entering the parking lot and remaining in the car line.
Please wait for the car ahead of you to pull forward and do not pull around them after dropping off your child.
Please put your name sign in your dash that the school provided you at the beginning of the year. That helps us identify cars quickly (especially as the number cars increase during winter).
Please have your child exit the car on the curb side of the car. Exiting the car away from the curb is unsafe for the parents and students. If exiting the curb side of the car is not possible for you, please work with the office to develop a safe and efficient solution (614-733-0012).
Thank you for following the car line rules so students, staff, and families can remain safe.

Colder Weather is ...Here!
It’s getting cold outside! GRE students LOVE going out for recess. We want them to stay safe and healthy. Please make sure your child leaves for school with outerwear appropriate for the day’s weather. Make a habit of checking the weather forecast and encouraging your child to wear a coat, hat, scarf and gloves on these colder days. Students are welcome to wear shorts while inside, but they MUST wear pants over them for recess during cold temperatures. Students must also bring out a jacket that is appropriate for the temperature.
- 20 degrees or below with wind chill - all recesses will be indoors
- 21-25 degrees with wind chill - lunch recess will be indoors, short recess will be outdoors
- 26 degrees with wind chill and warmer - all recesses will be outdoors
Lastly, it is a good reminder to put your child's name in their respective winter attire. A simple task of putting names in coats and on sweatshirts helps get them back to their owner.

Cookie Dough and Pastry Sale
The PTO cookie dough and pastry sale kicked off on Wednesday, November 2nd and will conclude on Wednesday, November 16th. The designated time for picking up all orders is Thursday, December 8th from 4:30-6:30 PM.
Your child was given a flier to bring home earlier this week with product information; however, ordering is ONLINE only. The flier includes a unique Web Sale Code that is associated with your student. Once you log in with the code, you will receive an email link specifically for your child that you can send out to family and friends for ease of ordering as well. This eliminates collecting cash and checks from those you sell to.
