Class of 2023 Success! Keep up the great work!!!
I want to share the fantastic news with you. Our class of 2023 is doing outstanding work and effort for post-secondary readiness.
The HSA Pf college application rate is 100%, FAFSA/TASFA completion rate is 93%, the 1-1 Meetings rate is 100% for semester 1, and 87% of the seniors have been accepted 4-year college so far, which is a tremendous success.

The goals of a middle school Programs of Studies NHS Career fair:
• Expose students to career pathways in all five programs of studies
• Expose students to high-growth, high-demand career opportunities
• Expose students to postsecondary options such as community colleges, tech schools, and the military
• Give students the opportunity to ask questions of someone who represents the career

February is National CTE Month
We wish you a Happy CTE Month. We want to celebrate our CTE teachers who provide students with quality CTE programs that prepare them for college, career, and military postsecondary success.
I want to give huge thanks to our CTE teacher, Mrs. Clark. Mr. Melvin, Ms. Kurszewski, Mr. Caliskan, Ms. Shukla, Mr. Soybas, Ms. Lockett, and CTE Coordinator Mr. Tuncel for making a difference
Registered Dental Assistant / Industry-Based Certification (IBC) Certification
I want to share the fantastic news with you. 17 students, successfully completed the program requirements of the Registered Dental Assistant Course and got our first-ever RDA IBC Certification at HSA Pflugerville. We implemented The RDA program this school year, and we hope this will lead to more students earning their IBCs soon.

Senior Lock-In, Friday, March 3rd 5:00 PM-9:00 PM
Dear Seniors,
The college and Career department will organize a Senior Lock-in event on Friday, March 3rd, from 5:00 PM-9:00 PM.
The students who are on track for graduation(credits), complete the FAFSA/TASFA application, and get accepted by a 4-year college will be able to attend the event.
We will serve pizza, soda, popcorn, and snacks during the event. We will have activities including sports, video games, movies, and board games at assigned locations.
There will be a $5 fee.
Please return the permission slip by Tuesday, Feb 28th, to your assigned college and career counselor, who will verify your eligibility to attend the event.
GROW YOUR OWN TEACHER (GYOT)
Dear Seniors,
The Harmony Grow Your Own Teacher (GYOT) program is accepting applications now. The application deadline is April 7, 2023, and the class of 2023 is also eligible.
GYOT Eligibility for HPS Graduates
1. Completion of junior and senior year of high school with official HPS graduation and award of a diploma.
2. HPS graduates must pursue any degree major that leads to teacher certification.
3. Cumulative college GPA of 2.5 or higher at the time the individual applies for the Program and throughout a selected Participant’s participation in the Program.
4. Has been accepted and will be enrolled full-time in a 4-year College or University in Texas
5. The applicant must be eligible to work in the United States.

At HPS, class rank for honors graduation ceremony status is determined by the weighted GPA through the end of the first semester of the senior year.

ASVAB Career Exploration Program (CEP)
Dear 10-12th grade students,
If you want to take the Armed Services Vocational Aptitude Battery (ASVAB) test, please see the attached for more information and sign up with your counselors.
The test will be administered during the school day in late February or early March, and the date will be announced.

Apply for the 2023-24 Rising Leaders Cohort
Please take a look at the opportunity below. The National Alliance for Public Charter Schools has opened the applications for the 2023-2024 Rising Leaders Cohort.
The clock is winding down for students to apply for our 2023-24 Rising Leaders cohort! This special opportunity is a one-year advocacy training program for charter high school students looking to be agents of change for education in their local community and state.
Here's who should apply:
- High school students enrolled at a U.S. charter school in the 2022-2023 academic year
- Good academic standing
- Demonstrated commitment to others through volunteering and service to their school/community.
- An interest in advocacy, leadership, and government
For accepted students, the program will run from September 2023 to June 2024. Students will be eligible for a $3,000 stipend and additional club operating funds.
The Youth Leadership Institute (YLI) Application is Now Open!
Greetings,
Are you a high-achieving Latino high school junior and student leader? If so, the highly-rated YLI is for you! You were identified as a competitive applicant, because of your strong academic performance. The application takes approximately 30 minutes to complete. Visit our YLI page for more information.
YLI is a free, college empowerment summer program for high achieving Latino high school juniors, held virtually and at two top universities across the US. This highly selective program is designed to give young leaders the practical tools they need to successfully apply to top universities, have full access to scholarship and financial aid opportunities, and set a course for academic and career success.
The deadline to apply is Friday, February 24, 2023, 5:00 PM PT.
It is entirely FREE for students to apply and participate:
- HSF and the host institution provide you housing: 5 days, on-campus, within the YLI dorm at USC or The University of Chicago
- HSF and the host institution provide all food on-campus and program materials
- If you need assistance, HSF pays for your roundtrip airfare transportation, from your city to YLI
