EXCELLENCE IN EDUCATION AWARDS HONOR THREE REPRESENTATIVES OF STRONGSVILLE CITY SCHOOLS
The Educational Service Center of Northeast Ohio recently held their annual “Excellence in Education” Awards, recognizing students with disabilities, peers, and educators. Congratulations to the following representatives from Strongsville City Schools who were recognized at this awards ceremony:
Nicole Burdick (Outstanding Student Achievement Award) - Nicole, a senior at SHS, will attend Gallaudet University in the fall. She has been a determined advocate for herself and others who are deaf and hard of hearing. Nicole has taken the initiative to start the American Sign Language club at SHS and created her own website for teaching sign language on YouTube.
Samantha Fillar (Outstanding Peer Achievement Award) - A senior at SHS, Samantha has accrued an impressive amount of volunteer hours and extracurricular activities in her efforts to support students with disabilities. Over the past three years, she has served as a peer model for students in the multiple disability classroom as well as the art explorations class, which is designed to support students with special needs.
Claire Crowley (Outstanding Educator Achievement Award) - Claire is in her first year at Muraski Elementary and has been a leader in advocating for all students. She continuously seeks ideas for implementing research-based interventions that have allowed students to remain in the general education setting as much as possible. Claire is a true team player who has worked tirelessly to ensure that each child is receiving the support, care, and interventions needed to reach their potential.
