Magness Creek Elementary
Week of October 2, 2023
We have made it to October and have almost completed our first nine weeks of the 2023-2024 school year. Here is what this week has in store for us at Magness Creek:
*We are hosting our first Diverse Abilities Day on Monday here at the Creek. All students in grades K-4 will be treated to four rotations on such diverse abilities centered around hearing/vision, physicality, neurotypicalities, and ADHD. This is an excellent way to celebrate empathy and to learn more about our world full of differences.
*Our beginning of the year MAP Growth family reports will go home with students in K-4 on Monday. The purpose of MAP Growth is to determine what your child knows and is ready to learn next. MAP Growth tracks student growth over time. Please let your child's teacher know if you have any questions on how to read this report.
Hope everyone has a week full of content!
How to access Lexia at Home
Lexia is an online reading program that we use for all students here at Magness Creek in grades K-4. It has 21 levels. Students took a placement test at the beginning of the year and were placed on the level they should begin with. Every time a student passes a level, the office will give the student a prize and document the progress on a superstar wall by the office. Various classroom teachers have systems in their classrooms as well to further reward units and time spent on Lexia. We have seen Lexia grow students substantially in the area of reading. As you know, chromebooks stay here at school this year, but we wanted you to have the information for your child to be able to access Lexia at home on a personal device if they would want to devote more time to this program after hours:
*Go to https://lexiacore5.com.
*Use your child's teacher email to log in. Then use your child's Student ID for the username and password. Please call the office or ask your child's teacher for the Student ID number if you do not know it.
