Wrapping Up Another School Year

Mrs. Dreher will be sending out notifications soon, but it is always helpful for you to reach out as well so that we make certain we don't miss any students.
Let's say you have a 1300 or a 1350 or a 30 or 31 (these are just examples) and you plan to take the SAT or ACT by the June administration, then you could still qualify. You will want to have your scores sent directly to the CHE. Use the following codes: For SAT-- 4313, For ACT--6326.
If you have any questions, it's better to call or email Mrs. Dreher and err on the side of caution. Seniors who qualified for the early awards should have already received their notifications letters via the email you provided on the paperwork. Senior Exams
Senior exams for students who do not meet the exemption criteria will be Friday, May 12th for 1st and 2nd blocks and Monday, May 15th for 3rd and 4th blocks.
Exam Exemption Criteria
1. Grade of 80 or higher (semester average)
2. No more than 3 unexcused or unverified absences
3. No ISS or OSS

- The Tywanza Sanders Legacy Foundation--SC high school senior, graduating 2016-2017 school year, attending a 4 year accredited college/university this fall, have a 2.5 or higher, demonstrate financial need, submit a short written or video essay, submit application and all supporting, submit application and supporting documents by June 9, 2017. - Sheriff's Foundation of York County, Inc.- must be a graduating senior planning to pursue a law enforcement-related area of study such as criminal justice, detention/corrections, forensic science, criminology, social work, etc. Please see Mrs. Dreher in guidance to pick up an application. Deadline Monday, May 1st.
- Charlotte Knights STEM Scholarship- senior, attending accredited institution in fall, 3.3 unweighted GPA or higher, 1200 SAT or 26 ACT, member of sports team or other extracurricular, heavy involvement in community or multiple hours of volunteer experience, declare a STEM major. See Mrs. Dreher for an application. Deadline Friday, May 5th.
- Charlotte Knights Healthcare Scholarship- senior, attending accredited institution, unweighted GPA 3.3 or higher, 1200 SAT or 26 ACT, member of sports team or extracurricular activity, heavy involvement in the community or multiple hours volunteer experience, declare a major within the Healthcare field or have interest in pursing a career in healthcare field. See Mrs. Dreher for an application. Deadline Friday, May 5th.
- $1,000 Touchstone Energy Scholarship- must be served by York Electric Cooperative to be eligible. Have above average grades and submit an essay. Deadline May 30th. See Mrs. Dreher for application.

Summer Program Opportunities
Furman University- offers a Summer Scholars program for rising high school juniors and seniors to participate in classes led by some of Furman’s favorite professors, live on campus, and get a great taste of college life.
Two sessions: July 9-15 & July 16-22
Application Deadline- May 01, 2017
One week session- $1,200

Gettysburg College is excited to offer several opportunities for high school juniors and sophomores to attend academic camps over the summer months. Subjects include psychology, American government, creative writing, or information technology. Please read the camp descriptions below for more information.
- Camp Psych - Campers will get hands-on experiences that introduce them to research in psychology during this fun, challenging, and engaging introduction to the field.
- Campaigns and Elections Academy - This program is designed for highly-motivated students who have a strong interest in American campaigns and elections. Participants learn about the origins and evolution of democracy in America and gain hands-on experiences related to modern political campaigns. *Application will go live in early February.
- Writing Camp - Students gain an in-depth introduction to all four genres of creative writing: fiction, poetry, nonfiction, and writing for stage and screen.
- 3D Object Modeling and Printing Camp - Students will study 3D object modeling and printing starting with the basics of a 3D printer. After learning the fundamentals, they will practice designing objects.
- Adruino Camp - Students will use their creativity and the easy-to-learn Arduino to create projects with its sensors, motors, speakers and displays, to create projects that interact with them and their world.
- Civil War Institute Summer Conference - The High School Student Scholarship component of Gettysburg College's annual Civil War Institute summer conference provides high school students an opportunity to explore the history of the Civil War era on the site of the war's most decisive battle.

University of North Georgia- Students have a choice of learning Arabic, Chinese, Russian, German, Korean, French, Japanese or Portuguese. They will also learn about federal service careers where knowing a critical foreign language and culture is important, such as the FBI, Department of State, CIA, the military, and more. For three weeks, your rising high school sophomores, juniors and seniors will live in a modern residence hall on our scenic campus in Dahlonega, Georgia, site of the first major gold rush in the U.S. They will be taught by highly trained instructors using communicative language teaching methods.
This opportunity is open to rising high school juniors. They will also have an opportunity to study abroad in France or Germany if they have at least two years of high school French or German.

Business Explorer: This exciting one week, residential program puts you in command of the technology that’s altering the world of tomorrow. You will see how technology is changing the game in accounting, finance (including quantitative finance), management, information systems, international business, marketing and more as you work towards creating a dynamic consulting strategy for a real company.
Entrepreneurship: From an Idea to a Startup: Think you have what it takes to be an Entrepreneur? This strategically designed one week, residential program will focus on the tools and skills that are required to develop an idea that can be pitched to a potential customer. Throughout the week you will be exposed to robust group exercises, guest speakers, exciting site visits, engaging discussions and workshops led by successful business owners. The program will culminate with students creating an innovative website for a business idea that your group develops.

Long Island University (LIU) - This summer, rising high school seniors can pursue their passion and get a taste of college life at one of LIU's residential campuses in New York. The Summer Honors Institute @ LIU is a one-week intensive that will give you the chance to immerse yourself in different fields of study. You’ll work closely with distinguished faculty mentors and gain invaluable experience through hands-on projects and field trips. All accepted students receive free tuition and housing.
