MAPA Scholastic Book Fair! Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday 3:00-6:00 in the school library.
The spelling bee will be starting at 9:30 am. If your class is planning to attend, please be there on time so we can get started. Our plan is to be done so Tuesday's specials can go on as scheduled starting at 10:55 (we hope the spelling be will not last that long).
Please send your spellers to the gym at 9:15 so we can give them their numbers and go over the rules in detail with them. The order of spellers was picked randomly. No changes to the random order were made once the names were picked. We will go through one practice round with the spellers before starting elimination rounds. We realize this may add to the time the bee takes, but we feel it is important for the students' success and will help get the jitters out.
We will go to the top speller.
The top two spellers will go to the state spelling bee. Before bringing your class, please go over basic grace and courtesy with them, things like cheering only when appropriate, not making fun of kids who may spell the word wrong, and not mouthing the spelling of the words. Please remind them that the kids spelling might be nervous and it is a brave thing they are doing and can use our best support.

I have shared a map of the layout of the gym for the bee. Some classes will be sitting on the floor in front of parents. There will only be room for about 6 classes there and it will be first come first serve. The other classes will need to sit against the wall to either side. Only parents and other family will be sitting in the chairs. Please no students in chairs. We would love to have all students attend, but will leave that choice up to you.
As a committee we have been working to make this as successful as possible. We want to thank you for your support.

Literacy Night- Expected ALL Full time staff to be attending.
ASPIRE- Behavior Reports
PLEASE- message from Mr. Mike, Ms. Nicoletta and Ms. Andrea
If you have a student who is cussing, bad mouthing you or your assistant, being physical with themselves or others and or destroying property- this should be written up. We need the documentation.
WHY- because these written documents are IMPORTANT pieces to the puzzle of the child's behavior and helps to identify antecedents, consequences and patterns.
WE NEED the Information!
We have seen a lot lately that we are called for Administrative support and incidents are not being reported in ASPIRE- and we have also seen a DECLINE in the use of the color discipline cards to help follow the procedures.
Message from Office Ladies
If the office door is shut, please know that there is sensitive information being discussed. Please look in the window so you see we have acknowledged you- if it is an emergency or urgent please write a sticky note on the window stating "URGENT".
Doors slightly closed:
If the door is slightly shut- it means that the office ladies are really busy trying to get work done. Please be mindful.
Please know that from 8:00-8:30 and 3:00-4:00 are truly their only time that they have to focus on work tasks without being interrupted by students.
Laminator ordered:
We have ordered a new laminator. Details and perimeters to come.
Thank you for being mindful and understanding.

- PBIS (positive behavior interventions and supports) https://www.pbisworld.com/ Please take a look at this website. It is an excellent resource. Though Montessori philosophy does not believe in reward system- the concepts and resources provided are amazing and easily adaptable to the Montessori philosophy. Did you know that Ready 1, Ready 2 and Ready 3 is a PBIS implementation...Our hope is that this website will enable you as teachers and staff to learn, understand, implement and discuss PBIS- feel more autonomy with your knowledge and skills. We can never learn to much about class management and behavior strategies. This is a fantastic tool and one that Ms. Andrea and myself use ALOT.
- PBIS World is a website containing links to hundreds of interventions, supports, resources, and data collection tools, all of which are organized into the tier 1 through 3 framework. It is designed to help guide users through the PBIS implementation process, starting with behavior identification and offering suggestions for interventions and data collection tools. 2020-2021 School Calendar
Message from Mr. Mike to parents:
After examining several district and charter school calendars we were able to come up with an acceptable format that followed the surrounding school's models.
Some of the changes for next year are fifteen minutes added to the end of the day on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday. Our school hours will be 8:30 am – 3:15 pm. This will help facilitate the other change on the calendar so that our hours are 8:30 am – 1:45 pm on Wednesday. Kindergarten schedules will also change. Our 2020-2021 calendar will be available on our website this week.
Our teachers are required to complete a great deal of professional development each year. This early out will facilitate the teachers participating in professional development within their contract hours. Through this professional development we can discuss the methods that will best benefit your children as they attend Maria Montessori Academy.
