Current Superintendent Mark Wenzel will be leaving the district at the end of the 2019-2020 school year to pursue an international superintendent job.

The Anacortes School Board of Directors invites community input throughout the process. This meeting is open to the public; please RSVP to the Superintendent's Office at (360) 503-1211, or

National School Bus Safety Week - Oct 21-25

Join us in celebrating National School Bus Safety Week October 21-25 in recognition of the care and dedication our transportation staff bring to their work every day. In 2018-19, our school bus drivers drove more than 227,000 miles, transporting approximately 1300 of our students.

Our transportation department consistently receives top marks in inspections from the Washington State Patrol. Members of our transportation team will be highlighted on the district's Facebook page throughout the week, and recognized at the Nov. 7 school board meeting at 6:15 p.m. at the Anacortes High School Library. We encourage families, students and staff to show your appreciation for our bus drivers, mechanics, dispatcher, and transportation supervisor throughout the week as well!

Now accepting volunteer applications

Volunteers are essential partners in the success of our schools, and we truly appreciate their gifts of time and talent that fuel so many wonderful opportunities for our students. Individuals from throughout our community serve in variety of volunteer positions, from tutors and mentors to classroom assistants, special project committees, and so much more!

All volunteers must have a yearly application and background check on file with the district office prior to service in our schools.

Clearance is on a one-year basis, and all volunteers must re-apply each school year. The beginning of the school year is an excellent time to complete the process, so that you can be ready to volunteer in the schools or chaperone a field trip.

The application link can be found here

The online application may be accessed from your home computer at any time. You also are welcome to contact the ASD District Office for assistance with the process, including help for anyone without a home computer to complete the application.

For more information, please contact the ASD District Office at (360) 503-1200, or email to

As a courtesy, the Anacortes School District posts information here for non-school related community events and information that benefits students. The district does not necessarily endorse or sponsor any of these activities.
