Smarter Balanced Assessments
To learn more about these tests, please visit CDE’s Starting Smarter site at https://ca.startingsmarter.org/, which provides informative guides and test score descriptions as well as sample test items at different levels of difficulty.
The California Science Test (CAST)
California’s new state standards for science are emphasized in our mission and vision. Working with science teachers, California has developed an assessment that emphasizes scientific thinking and reasoning. This test is taken once in high school. Your scholar will take the test this year if they are completing their final year of science courses. For additional information about the new science tests and sample questions, please visit the CDE’s CAASPP Science Assessment Web page at http://www.cde.ca.gov/ta/tg/ca/caasppscience.asp.
Practice and Training Tests
Another great resource are the Practice and Training Tests, which can be found on the CAASPP website at http://www.caaspp.org/practice-and-training/index.html. Here, parents can experience the kinds of questions that scholars will encounter on the tests by accessing the "Student Interface Practice and Training Tests."
If you have any questions regarding your scholar’s participation in statewide assessments, please contact your scholar’s advisor, or Beth Sneyd, Assessment Coordinator at bsneyd@compasscharters.org.
