Principal's Message

October 24, 2022

Dear Parents and Guardians:

Welcome to the October edition of the Patriot Newsletter. It is my hope that the monthly newsletter will provide you with some information about the amazing educational opportunities and activities taking place at Portsmouth High School. As you can imagine, with all that goes on in each department, club, activity and classroom, the newsletter captures only some highlights.

As you are aware, we recently celebrated Homecoming, Spirit Week, the dance, football game and parade. Traditions such as these provide students with opportunities to collaborate, have fun and display the pride they have in Portsmouth High School. Since assuming my role, I have met many Portsmouth High School alumni who share their recollection of the fond memories they have for the traditions passed down through the years. It is evident that your children will leave PHS feeling the same sense of connection, gratitude and Portsmouth Pride for years to come.

Enjoy browsing through the pages of our newsletter and as always, thank you for your collective contributions and support. Please feel free to contact me if you have a question or concern.

Kind Regards,

Dr. Vanessa Reale

  • The form and payment ($25) is due by Nov 30th.

If NO form is returned AFTER Nov 30:

English Department

In conjunction with - and to further support - their curriculum, Kaylin Johnson and Mary-Kate O’Keefe took their AP Language students to Plymouth, MA on October 14. Although the weather was not very cooperative, students still enjoyed this experience where - as part of their itinerary - they spent time visiting Burial Hill, the Courthouse and the Pilgrim Hall Museum! We hope to continue making this a yearly event.

Modern World Language Department

Language Honor Society

Mrs. Tisdale is the advisor. Tutoring will begin November 1st. A link will be created and Mrs. Tisdale will share it so that teachers can post it in their Google Classrooms. Students who are interested in being tutored will be matched up with an LHS student who has the same "free" time (learning center or time after school). Stay tuned!

Spanish Classes: "Locotubre" started Oct 17. This is a way to celebrate and encourage students to actively participate in Hispanic culture and language. Students will be introduced to music in Spanish from the 70s, 80s, 90s and 2000s. Songs are organized in a bracket and students will vote on their favorites along with other students learning Spanish from around the globe. This is an engaging and fun way to end classes for the month of October and into November.

National French Week: The American Association of Teachers of French announces its organization of the twenty-first annual National French Week. This week-long celebration of all things French will take place in schools and communities and AATF chapters across the U.S. PHS will take part from 14-18 November. Portsmouth High School French students will participate in the Francophone Culture Trivia Contest, watch French films, share and talk about French culture, music and food!
