The Renaissance
Jonathan L. 1st
What Was The Change?
The rebirth of art, education and culture. People focused less on God and church, and began focusing on the individual. As a result of the Crusades, trade was increasing quickly and flourishing. Sophisticated and artistic men were cool, and some of the greatest artists ever emerged from this era.
Who Were the people associated with the change?
Leonardo da Vinci
Da Vinci was a Renaissance artist, sculptor, architect, musician, mathematician, engineer, inventor, anatomist, geologist, cartographer, botanist and writer. He is most famous for his paintings, Mona Lisa and The Last Supper (picture above is Last Supper).
Michelangelo Simoni
Michelangelo was an Italian sculptor, painter, architect, poet and engineer during the Renaissance. He is most famous for his paintings, The Sistine Chapel and The Creation of Adam (picture above is the Sistine Chapel).
Filippo Bruneschelli
Bruneschelli was one of the greatest architects and engineers of the Renaissance. He is most famous for his discovery of perspective, and engineering the dome of the Florence Cathedral (picture above is Cathedral of Florence dome).
How did the change impact society at the time?
Society began a new age. Men were becoming educated in art, culture and self achievement. Being fancy was "in". Men would go out and dance and watch plays during the day, and study at night. Education and class was key to being a true man in this era.
How is that change evident in today's modern society?
In Art class, you'll probably learn all about Da Vinci, Michelangelo. Raphael, or many of the other great artists who were alive and painting during the Renaissance. The Renaissance introduced perspective to the world of art. 3 Dimensional art was coming around, and enhancing art. Their artwork created a certain standard. Mona Lisa is a priceless painting, and extremely famous, and all artists look up to it. Past artwork influences many of today's artists.
